In an effort to increase morning productivity I attempted to wake up at exactly 8:00 am everyday for 100 days (15 days simulated, 85 days achieved). Each day represents a buzzer, which also symbolizes an alarm. The grid pattern I've chosen simulates a scale structure, a theme I'm exploring in core. Using a 9V battery, each buzzer draws approximately 90 milliamps. I measured the output frequency of one of the buzzers and it is approximately 725 Hz. As an experiment, I placed a tube that is a quarter wavelength long at 725 Hz (approximately 4.75 inches) and the tone improved and the signal measured on the oscilloscope was more stable. The velocity of sound (c) is 1125 feet/second in dry air at 20 degrees C at sea level. The wavelength (λ) corresponding to a frequency (f) is found via: λ = c / fA tube closed at one end and open at the other resonate at odd multiples of a quarter wavelength so I cut a tube 4-3/4 inches long (approximately a quarter wavelength at 725 Hz) and taped it over the diaphragm opening on the buzzer. Though the wave quality increases, I decided not to use tubes.A 9 volt battery conservatively has a capacity of 500 mAH (milliamp-hours) and at a drain of 90 mA the battery will last a few hours at most. A typical drain for a 9 volt battery is 15 mA so 90 mA is a very heavy load on the battery. The modularity of each circuit, however, allows the piece to be installed in a variety spaces and configurations without the need of electricity.
