The set is heavy on their breakthrough albums MUSIC and 311 and light on 1997's TRANSISTOR and its emphasis on dub reggae. It all kicks off with 311's hit single "Down," mixing their trademark pounding guitar riffs and twin vocal attack. SA Martinez handles the raps and guitarist Nick Hexum does the singing, straying from the band's favorite topic only on occasion, to rail against bigotry and intolerance. Bassist P-Nut and drummer Chad Sexton are in sync throughout, going from punk to funk to reggae and changing gears on a dime. LIVE proves that 311's reputation as one of the best high-energy live bands out there is well deserved. <p>The heartland's favorite stoners are back at it, this time promoting the wacky weed with a live album titled--you guessed it--LIVE. 311 is a band obsessed, and they don't hide it, with titles like "Homebrew," "Freak Out" and "Who's Got The Herb?" - you have to hear it for yourself!!

311 is the greatest band that has ever been, is, and will be. Their unique blend of musical styles is so apparent on this CD, and the energy on it is no less than it is at one of their concerts. If you want something to take you back to the greatest experience of your life (a 311 concert, of course!), _this_ is the CD for you! :-)

NOD YOUR HEAD!!!

Steven "Steven" (Gilbert, PA) - December 07, 2009
- a 311 concert in your room

The original songs are of course better but this album shows a couple rarities and makes you listen to 311 at a concert - great.

John "The Man" (Florida) - February 10, 2003
- One of the best sounding bands

I own the "explicit lyrics" version of this CD but for some reason, amazon does not sell it. But thats not the point.

311 "Live" is possibly one of the greatest cds that I own. 311 is also probably the best live performance I have ever seen. I have seen them in concert about 5 times already and I would go over 1000 more times. They bring so much energy and positivity to the stage with them that once you are in that theater, you never want to leave. So I am glad that I can now capture some of that same emotion on CD.

The cd contains 14 of mainly their more popular hits that were played live. The entire cd is phenominal from beginning to end, but the highlights would definately be Homebrew, Beautiful Disaster, Misdirected Hostility, Nix Hex(With Tim Mahoney's unforgettable extended guitar solo), Applied Science(with Chad Sexton's unforgettable extended drum solo), omaha stylee, galaxy, hydroponic, and feels so good (with P-Nut's unforgettable bass solo).

So even if you haven't seen them live before, just by listening to this cd, you can tell that they bring massive amounts of energy to the stage with them. But if you haven't seen them live, buying this cd will only get you a part of the Live 311 experience. Go see them live for yourself and you will find that you will be anxiously waiting for every chance you get to see them live again. 311 CAN'T BE BEAT!!!
