- If you don't have someone to... (sing along please!)
This one is the bomb, baby, this is the album that hooked me like a fish and hung me out to dry. I first heard "Do You Right" (circa 1993) and that was it. I stole it from my girlfriend so I could hear it all the time.
"Music" is just that. From the reggae hook at the beginning of "Welcome" to the body-slam beats of "Freak Out", "Fat Chance" and "Feels so Good", this album is the all-time party record. I went to see these guys in early 94 at a tiny club in Santa Barbara with Sublime... the show burned my ears off.
Stop criticizing 311s newer albums. Just accept that all good bands want to evolve their sound, try new things, experiment. All bands get bored doing the SAME THING. Even Metallica got bored. Just get down on your knees and thank the Music gods that 311 made this album at all.

- 311 at their best
Taking songs from three of their previous albums and writing new ones to go with them, Music is the best album ever. Every song has individuality and style. I don't know what to call their style, it's a mix between rock/reggae/alternative/and rap. It blew my mind when I heard it. If you like their other albums then get this and prepare for a surprise. Many people are mistaken and think it's their debut album, but it's not, it's their first major record release. Originally released in 1993, and then re-released in 1996, there are no hits on this album, they were still underground at this time, still at their old school style. This is an easy 5 stars and if your buyin then get THIS! The sweet, melodic sounds of Nix Hex to the hard, crunching sound of FTBS(the hidden song). Then theres the happy slam dance song Do You Right, my personal favorite song ever, to the classic, high energy Freak Out. This covers all the styles, you can go to bed to it, get pumped up to it, sing along to it, or just enjoy it. Once again the best album ever and gets an easy 5 stars.

- 'Music'
If you're reading this review, you've more than likely heard at least some of 311's music, like the hits 'Down', 'All Mixed Up', 'Amber', etc. While this album doesn't contain any hits, it does arguably contain 311's finest songs. From the headbanger songs 'Visit', 'Unity' to the chill songs 'My Stoney Baby', 'Nix Hex' to the headbanger/chill songs 'Freak Out', 'Hydroponic' to the concert favorites 'Feels So Good', 'F*ck The Bullsh*t' this album is very well balanced with its array of styles and the rapping is the best i've ever heard. This is easily 311's most solid album to date. Strongly recommended.

- 311 At Their Best
I've loved 311 for a long time and even though every one of their cds has found their way into my stereo many times, I still believe that their first album, "Music," is their best. Many of their later albums they have been experimenting, although their newest, "From Chaos," is pretty solid. However this one defintely proves that 311 knew what they were doing with their music (but not with their lives; their first tour led to their RV breaking down and burning with all their possesions including equipment getting destroyed.) I guess you could call this rap-rock which you wouldn't call their newer albums. But I've heard some reggae like style in here and it mixes very well. It is really easy to listen to the whole thing but for some reason I can't get into it when I skip around between songs. Anyway, if you have any 311 cds or are into punkish rap-rock I suggest you buy it soon. They also rule in concert; I saw them at the Warped Tour and they were great and most of their songs came from this album.

- this album makes u feel so good
ok, 311 didn't invent the whole funk/rock/metal/hip-hop thing, (that credit would have to be given to the red hot chili peppers), but they sure as hell do it really damn good. every song on this album is very cool and it contains a pretty good mix of hard thumpin numbers (Freak Out, Welcome, Unity, Fat Chance) to groovin mellow songs (Paradise, Nix Hex, My Stoney Baby, Do You Right) and everything in between. The combination of rap and singing interplay between Nick Hexum and SA Martinez is outta this world, they really sound good together. P-Nut is a very skilled bass player (he's no flea, but he can hold his own) and alot of the songs' mellowness and feel depend on his playing. Tim Mahoney is a good guitarist, his playing is very diverse (influences range from rock, to punk to jazz, to funk, to reggae, to latin, everything) which is essential to the band. He is actually very talented but he tends to back off on the records. Chad Sexton's drumming is very funky and gives that distinct 311 beat. In my opinion, one of the best bands out there today. If you are looking to get into 311, this is the record to get started. One of my all time favorite albums
