<p>The heartland's favorite stoners are back at it, this time promoting the wacky weed with a live album titled--you guessed it--LIVE. 311 is a band obsessed, and they don't hide it, with titles like "Homebrew," "Freak Out" and "Who's Got The Herb?" The set is heavy on their breakthrough albums MUSIC and 311 and light on 1997's TRANSISTOR and its emphasis on dub reggae. It all kicks off with 311's hit single "Down," mixing their trademark pounding guitar riffs and twin vocal attack. SA Martinez handles the raps and guitarist Nick Hexum does the singing, straying from the band's favorite topic only on occasion, to rail against bigotry and intolerance. Bassist P-Nut and drummer Chad Sexton are in sync throughout, going from punk to funk to reggae and changing gears on a dime. LIVE proves that 311's reputation as one of the best high-energy live bands out there is well deserved.

- GO SEE THEM LIVE
If you haven't seen 311 live, do it now! Seriously, this album proves that they sound just as great.
Unfortunatly, this is just a souvenir. It does feature three ample changes (applied Science with it's drum solo, ) and 2 songs not featured on the albums (well, one's rare, who's got the Herb makes it's only appearance here). These songs are must here's, but the rest are just a souvenir, with the atmosphere that most people love. I would rather just see them live whenever I can. I reccomend finding a way to pay for the live songs on a service.
This ain't the live expirence. See them live instead, then save the rest for an afterthought. Do the rest.

- A great mix of the earlier 311 songs
311 is my favorite band from the 90s and really the first band I identified with. This is a nice mix of the earlier music they made and could really be considered a best of. The live recordings are great quality and include a bass solo in Feels So Good and a drum solo in Applied Science. The music from this time period is a lot more raw than the later music they made which I feel sounds more polished. I think they had the best mix of reggae in their music during this time period--funny for a bunch of guys from Nebraska. If you heard some music recently from the Uplifter album and were looking at 311's older work, consider this record, because it will give you the best mix of their old music, a lot of their gems were never singles.

- A must have for any TRUE 311 fan
I can sum up this review in one word....awesome. If you've ever seen 311 in concert, this CD will make you feel like you're there all over again. The sound quality is excellent, for a live CD, that's pretty rare =) It may be pricey, but it's worth every penny.
