Disco de 311: “Don't Tread on Me”

Disco de 311: “Don't Tread on Me”
Descripción (en inglés) :
311: Nick Hexum (vocals, guitar); SA Martinez (vocals); Tim Mahoney (guitar); P-Nut (bass guitar); Chad Sexton (drums, percussion). <p>On the follow-up to 2003's EVOLVER, Omaha pop-funk-reggae-rockers 311 continue the maturation process begun on that album. The 11 tunes on DON'T TREAD ON ME rarely deviate from 311's established formula. The laidback title track (also the album's first single) is a particular highlight, blending a rock-steady rhythm with one of the band's catchiest choruses. Elsewhere, S.A. Martinez and Erik Hexum maintain their trademark vocal blend; however, given that rap-metal was officially pass? by 2005, Martinez only slips into his hip-hop-influenced mode on the jittery "Speak Easy." The rest of the album tends to focus on upbeat rockers like "Thank Your Lucky Stars," "Solar Flare," and the party anthem "Frolic Room." 311 was always the least angsty rap-metal band; now they're more like Sugar Ray's wiseguy older brothers.

- Listen... It's different... but still fantastic!

Look, 311 gets probably one of the most mixed reviews as a band that I have ever seen. Half love the reggae-dub influence and half love the rap-rock style. I love both and appreciate what these guys bring to the table from both sides. I see reviews bashing this saying it isn't up to par with "classic" 311. I disagree. I think the old "blue" album sound was getting stale by the time "From Chaos" was released. They're maturing. It started with "Evolver" and continues with this album. They are moving to a more melodic and laid back style and I think it fits them well. Don't Tread On Me is a great example of how a band that has been together this long can adapt their styles and keep things fresh. I disagree 100% with the offical amazon review. This album is anything but rehashed old material. They sound so much different now than 10 years ago and that's a great thing. People need to evolve. This album is much more mellow than any other 311 album but the quality is still there. While I agree that if you hated 311 before this album won't change your mind, as a huge 311 fan it is a step towards new ground and a really fresh sound and that is what will keep the "true" fans of 311 happy forever. I mean if you love their old sound so much pop in their old records!! My Highlights are: Don't Tread On Me, Frolic Room, Waiting, Speak Easy. Thumbs Way Up!!

PS: I LOVE "Transistor"

- I'M NOT A KID, though this is a good CD.

I've been a 311 fan for a while; and they are my favorite band. They play different styles so what you hear on this CD will not match up too well with their other songs. People that expect the same stuff will be disappointed because they change up their style but keep their chemistry. If you just listen to the CD a couple times through, it will grow on you. When i first gave it a listen it was just - OK. But, after I listened to it again and again some songs stood out like 1,2,3,7,8,9,10,11. Those are my favorites from "Don't Tread on Me." I personally love their old school music but I definitely like their music as is.

- Definately a departure from other stuff, but AWESOME nonetheless

311 is my all time favorite band, songs like "Flowing", "Don't Let Me Down", "Homebrew" being my favs. Though this album is much different from previous ones, I LOVE IT! The tone of the album is similar to "Love Song" and "First Straw" from their Greatest Hits album. The best tracks on the album in my opinion are "Thank Your Lucky Stars", "Waiting" (it seems like a cartoonish song, I love it!) "Whiskey & Wine" and "Long for the Flowers". Heck, all of the album ROCKS. Definately a great summer/rocking/partying/hanging with your friends/going for a drive album!

- Awesome Album

I will admit the first time I listened to this Album i was a bit unsure if i liked it as much as 311s other albums. However after a few day I soon realized how great this ablum really is. I think that some of the more negative reviews of this ablum are a result of some listeners desire for anouther version of "blue album" or "from chaos". As 311 fans know, this band is one of the most creative bands out there and their already unique style is always changing and evolving. "don't tread one me" is an awesome album with a smooth melody and a positive message. 311 did it again
