Disco de AC/DC: “'74 Jailbreak”

This is a good album, but I can't see giving it 5 stars. I mean, the title track is possibly the best song they ever did with Bon at the helm, but that's really the only great song on here. None of the rest are bad by any means, but they're not classic either. The cover of Baby Please Don't God is quite good though, as is Soul Stripper. I guess I like this album more than I think I do.

However, it is short, and they should've added more songs to it during the remastering process. Despite this album and Volts from Bonfire there are still a handful of AC/DC tracks that have yet to be released in America. This shouldn't be! All in all, this is a worthy album though, because of the title track, and because it's generally cheaper than their other cds.

This short, bluesy collection shows a very creative band with a flamin' guitar man and a clever, rowdy vocalist. The title track is still one of my all time rock favorites: Simple, direct and gets you in the gut. Bon Scott's wasteful demise really prevented this band from reaching its true potential. Enjoy all 5 tunes on this CD with a beer and play some air guitar.

All you have to do is listen to the incredible title track and you will realize that early ac/dc was one of the purest, most ferocious rock bands there ever was. At a time when goofy "experimental rock"(Yes, Supertramp) and disco polluted the radio waves, Bon and the boys were dishing out some of the nastiest songs ever recorded. The title track alone is worth the price, and it makes today's "bad boy" bands(Bizkit, Korn) sound like talentless wussies.

Bon Scott's appeal, besides his MC of Sleaze lyric content, was his guy-from-the-neighborhood quality. Thank God there was an era when rock'n'rollers were neither role models or marketing majors. 74 JAILBREAK is an uncut dose of Bon at his dirty, filthy best. "Soul Stripper" is an AC/DC milestone, but all five of these tracks burn with fuel-efficiency.

I've heard a lot of complaints over the years about the fact that this album only has five songs, but it still remains among the elite AC/DC albums. For that matter, it is one of the best hard rock albums of all time. From the opening of Jailbreak to the rocking blues cover, Baby Please Don't Go, Bon and Angus show why the band went on to be rock and roll legends. In a time when cds have one or two radio hits and the rest of the cd is filler, I will gladly take these five rock and roll classics.
