Adema: Mark Chavez (vocals); Mike Ransom, Tim Fluckey (guitar); Dave DeRoo (bass); Kris Kohls (drums).
<p>The five pierced, tattooed, spiky-haired bad boys that make up Adema are mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore. Behind the tortured, angst-filled lyrics and dark, grinding song structures of his nu-metal band's debut there's obviously some serious strife and disaffection going on. Throughout ADEMA, the quintet uses savage drums, beastly guitars, and throat-rending vocals to display that inner turmoil. They've suffered for their art, and now the rest of the world is going to suffer. Of course, this kind of aural punishment is just what the doctor ordered for fans of the hard rock/heavy guitar sound practiced by Adema, so those who do time with the group's self-titled debut recording should find the experience to be quite a sweet sentence.

- My Favorite Album This Year So Far
I only heard the songs, "the way you like it," and "giving in" when I decided to buy Adema's album. Actually, I didn't realize that "giving in" was done by them until I got the CD, which was a very nice surprise. I really didn't know much about the band and I really hadn't heard anything else about them. Never read magazine articles on them, never saw them on MTV, and rarely even heard them on the radio. So why, you might be asking, did I buy the album when I only heard two songs (or really one song) by them? I like to be surprised. I like to pick up CDs by bands I've never heard if it looks interesting enough. I really had no idea what the reaction would be as soon as I popped this CD into my stereo. Well, it has to be said; I LOVE EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS ALBUM!
The lead singer has an awesome voice that can be soft or yelling and screaming at times. There is some excellent guitar playing that will get stuck inside your head no matter how hard you try to get it out. The drumming is intense and ties all of the songs together magnificently.
What I was most impressed by the group was their lyrical ability. If you listen to the actual words in the songs, they are so deep and very well constructed. Sure some verses may not rhyme exactly, but that isn't the point. It's very rare to find a music group that can put the exact right words into a song. I think most of the songs were written lyrically by the lead singer, as it usually is in most cases. All I can say is the guy has talent. He is able to drive out every single emotion inside your body.
The big thing about these guys is that the lead singer is related to Korn's Jonathan Davis. So what? I mean, that's interesting and all, but what does that have to do with these guys. And the people who call them Korn...and so on really agitate me, because they have no friggen clue of what these guys are about. Hey, I love Korn, but I'll go on the record and say that these guys are ten times better than Korn when it comes to song writing. Well, that's how I feel, and it had to be said.
I really can't list my favorite songs, because I LOVE EVERY SINGLE SONG ON THAT ALBUM. There is no bad song on the whole CD, which is extremely rare. But I think my absolute favorite song is "trust." I love the music and the lyrics. I mean; "I'm so alone / empty and lost / it's easier to let you go / time will erode / the shame and the fault / it's easier to let you go," it doesn't get any deeper than that! A word of warning, the songs tend to get very depressing, so you may not want to listen to the CD if you're feeling a little down in the dumps. Then again, maybe it'll make you feel better. Don't know, just thought I would warn you.
How would you classify these guys? I wouldn't put them in heavy metal, and I sure as hell wouldn't consider them alternative. So what are they? Good question. I think they're a little in between; not too heavy, yet not too soft. A little like Papa Roach, except there's a lot more singing from the lead singer. Some songs are heavier than others. If you want to hear a good band with some outstanding lyrics, very much like the kind that can only come out of Trent Reznor or Aaron Lewis, then pick up this CD today. You will not regret it at all. I bought this CD a couple of months ago, and I can't stop listening to it. Let's hope radio stations like Q101 doesn't destroy them by overplaying their songs. Same goes for MTV. This is a great band that speaks for itself and really only needs one listening to realize how good this CD is.

- Great Debut Album
This is a really great cd, its got to be one of my favorites in my collection. It kinda reminds me of Linkin Park, but better. Although "Marky" tries almost too hard to sound like his older brother Jon Davis on some songs. Sure, this is nu-metal, but it's actually good! Some highlights are: Giving In, Freaking out, and Drowning. Adema reminds me of Linkin Park meets KoRn. Although I really think this is a great cd, I still dont think it was worth breaking up Videodrone over (the ex-drummer Kris Kohls left Videodrone for Adema). But don't wait to buy it; ...go out and buy yourself a copy now! You'll be glad you did (and so will Adema).

- Solid album, with a couple of real standouts
I'll admit, I first became aware of Adema because I've been a huge fan of KoRn. And like many people, I first heard the band by seeing the "Giving In" video on MTV. However, the album really stands on its own merits, musical connections and popular support aside.
Most of the songs get into themes of angst and disappointment. The tone ranges from melancholy contemplation ("Close Friends," "Giving In") to unbridled anger ("Drowning," "Freaking Out").
But there's more than just the standard [ticked]-off vibe running through this disc. The album closes with the surprisingly poignant "Trust," a sad-but-hopeful look at relationships that is nothing short of beautiful. Not to downplay the rest of the songs--but I would seriously recommend buying the album based on this track alone. Elsewhere on the disc, "Speculum" and "Skin" strike a similar emotional chord. Don't pigeonhole this album as the standard aggro-rock--there's beautiful stuff going on here.
To satisfy the curious radio listeners and MTV-watchers--yes, there are songs on this album that are as good as or better than "Giving In" and "The Way You Like It." I'd describe this album as a collection of many good songs, a few great songs, and one gem that absolutely shoots into the stratosphere ("Trust").

- Great cd
This one of the few cd's that I actually put in my cd player and listen to every song. It has the heaviness which I love. But the songs also have meaning. And I can argue about being the number 1 LP fan, but thats besides the point. If anybody likes the new nu metal stuff, then you won't be dissapointed with this. Alos check out a bamd called soil. Not to many people know of them, but they are killer. Check em out.

- I had higher hopes.. but a solid cd otherwise
The first single is fantastic... "Giving In" is by far the best song on the cd... not that the other tracks are horrible... but, overall... it would have been nicer to have a little more diversity...they do seem a tad bit similar... but... i suppose that they wanted to make a statement with this cd.. that THIS is what they sound like... don't confuse us with the 2 other bands that you might think we sound like (the beats and grinds sound a whole lot like a grown up Linkin' Park and the voice sounds like a nice illusion of John Davis from Korn)... ah well... i'm not saying that this is just a cookie cutter band... put out in a knee-jerk reaction by ARISTA records suddenly saying "heyyyy these kind of bands are popular right now... let's GET us one of them" That would be too simple... although i'm sure it helped ADEMA get looked at...
All in all... if you like Linkin' Park... or Korn... or any band that has a tendency to plug it in and scream really loud... you will like this cd... it will be a nice addition to your collection... especially for it's very low price (i got mine at a local store for 7.99)... so... take a chance on it... you might like it... (and... please take note... that i am 30... and a definate korn kid at heart... so it's not a total knock that i say they sound like korn a little bit... it's one of the reasons that i gave them a listen... i love linkin' park also... so... i'm not totally saying forget ADEMA... they are worth the listen... but i can't help wishing for a whole album with the intensity of "giving in")
