Hole Cover the Rolling Stones, And Courtney Love Isn’t Satisfied at SXSWPhoto: Miller/FilmMagic “Make a hole!” yelled one of the bouncers at Dirty Dog, where Courtney Love was about to continue her return to music with a reconstituted version of her band Hole on the third night of the SXSW Music Festival. It was creeping up on 1:15 am. The crowd was packed so tightly together stage left of the dive bar that an emergency situation seemed imminent. Just then the bouncer bulldozered an opening through a space out of thin air to accommodate Woody Harrelson, dressed in a

I said we could write him in to the next 21 episodes!” West’s episode will air Spring 2010. The New York Dolls announced their new album Cause I Sez So will be released on May 4th. News Ticker: Rihanna & Fall Out Boy, Delaney Bramlett and My Chemical RomanceRihanna, Fall Out Boy, Enrique Iglesias and Lifehouse will take part in the NFL’s Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Bash, a two-night event at Tampa, Florida’s Ford Amphitheatre on January 29th and 30th. Actor Jerry O’ Connell will host the event, which will air live on VH1 three days before the Super Bowl on February 1st. Songwriter Delaney Bramlett, who co-wrote songs like Eric Clapton’s “Let It Rain” and the Carpenters’ hit “Superstar,” died December 27th as a result of complications following gall bladder surgery. He was 69. Bramlett was also a leading member of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, which at points featured artists like Clapton, Duane and Gregg Allman, George Harrison and Dave Mason. My Chemical Romance have begun work on their follow-up to 2006’s Welcome to the Black Parade. According to bassist Mikey Way, the album’s sound is constantly changing: “So if, say, we wrote some songs that sound like Rick Springfield, a week later they’ve all turned into Children of Bodom songs,” Way said. As opposed to the band’s last three albums, the new disc likely won’t have a central concept.

Sebastian Bach, Jermaine Jackson to Compete for Nashville Fame on “Gone Country 2″Next week marks a very special occasion for us at Rock Daily: the season premiere of CMT’s Gone Country 2. On the reality series, John McCain fan John Rich of Big & Rich invites a bunch of very non-country B-list celebrities to his Nashville mansion to try and convert them into marketable country stars. Last season ended with Julio Iglesias Jr.’s stunning victory over favorites Bobby Brown and American Idol’s Diana DeGarmo. Leading the charge for this season’s cast is Sebastian Bach, who crossed genres brilliantly on MTV’s Celebrity Rap Superstar and stands as the early favorite. Also ready to rock a cowboy hat are Chris Kirkpatrick of ‘NSYNC (and VH1’s Man Band), Jermaine Jackson and this season’s prerequisite American Idol reject, Mikalah Gordon. Rounding out the cast is actors Lorenzo Lamas (who you’ll recognize from those terrible action movies HBO airs at roughly 3:15 in the morning) and recently rehabbed Sean Young of Blade Runner and Ace Ventura “Finkle is Einhorn” fame. The season two premiere will air next Friday, August 15th, at 8 pm.

New Eagles Song Hits MySpace; Watch Jack White as Elvis Presley; Nine Inch Nails to Release Remix Album The Eagles are back in flight. It’s been 28 years since their last studio album, but now “How Long,” the first single from the band’s October-released, Wal-Mart-only album Long Road Out Of Eden, is streaming on MySpace. Click here to listen to the song. From the Hollywood comedy mafia that brought you Knocked Up and Superbad comes the trailer for the musical biopic spoof Walk Hard, starring John C. Reilly as a Johnny Cash/Brian Wilson hybrid, White Stripes’ Jack White as kung-fu Elvis, and Jewel in some capacity. Nine Inch Nails will release a Year Zero remix album, cleverly leet-titled Y34R Z3R0 R3M1X3D. The strange visa issues that Lily Allen somehow circumvented to attend the MTV Video Music Awards nomination show in Las Vegas will also force her to miss her appearance at the actual award show on September 9th. The Beastie Boys are following up their first ever concert in Brooklyn by adding shows in Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal. Check out the dates after the jump. 9/20 Montreal, Quebec - Bell Centre 9/21 Toronto, Ontario - Air Canada Centre 9/22 Toronto, Ontario - Hummingbird Centre for Performing Arts (Instrumental show) 9/24 Detroit, MI - Fillmore 9/26 Chicago IL - Riviera Theatre (Instrumental show) 9/27 Chicago IL - Charter One Pavilion

The Whigs Hit the Studio With Elliott Smith ProducerAthens, Georgia rock trio the Whigs recorded their first album, 2005’s Give ‘Em All a Big Fat Lip, on eBay-bought equipment in a borrowed frat house with no air-conditioning in 110-degree heat — and still managed to make Rolling Stone’s Ten Artists to Watch as an unsigned band. But we’re pleased to tell you that the hard-touring Whigs are in a fancy (and presumably climate-controlled) Los Angeles studio right now, recording their label debut with producer Rob Schnapf, best known for his work with Elliott Smith. And the Whigs — who signed with ATO Records last year — aren’t feeling too much pressure. “It’s not like, you know, when Pearl Jam released their second album,” says frontman Parker Gispert. “No one knows who we are, so it’s okay. And it’s the first time we get to really go record, so we’re pumped.” Like the Whigs’ previous work, the new album should mix garage-y rockers with slower, keyboard-driven tracks — but we’re guessing the whole thing will sound bigger this time. Check out some old songs on the Whigs’ MySpace page, or get a sneak peek at the upcoming album with this excerpt of their Bonnaroo performance of the new song “Right Hand on My Heart.” Photo: Rahav Segev / Retna
