Oasis’ “Dig Out Your Soul” Gets Release Date, Warner DistributionOasis’ seventh album Dig Out Your Soul will be released on October 7th. Additionally, it was announced that the band’s new album — released through the group’s own Big Brother Recordings — will be distributed in the North America by Warner Music. “The new music kicks ass,” says Warner Bros. Records COO Diarmuid Quinn, obviously excited to add Oasis to his label’s roster. Meanwhile, Sony BMG will continue to handle Oasis’ U.K. distribution. “The Shock of Lightning,” the album’s Noel Gallagher-penned first single, will hit radio in mid-August (but you can hear a snippet of it at the end of this video. Dig was recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios with producer Dave Sardy and mixed in Los Angeles. For the album’s track list and strange cover art, check the band’s official website. [Photo: Getty]

Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily This week, we gave Toronto prog gods Rush some long overdue love, first with an interview with the band, then with Rush’s complete album-by-album guide, and closed it all out by dedicating a Rock List in their honor. Now get off our backs, Rush fans. We geared up for the Who’s VH1 Rock Honors by talking to Roger Daltrey, who told us what Pearl Jam and the Flaming Lips had in store for the show tomorrow night. Daltrey also talked retirement, but that’s not stopping the band from going on tour this fall. Also, the Lips’ Wayne Coyne weighed in on the Who’s impact. Metallica spilled the beans on the many purchasing options for Death Magnetic come September. Not down with the digital option, the physical CD option or the limited edition version? Maybe a coffin box is right for you. Live Nation continued their march toward music industry domination by adding one of the most successful bands of the last couple years, Nickelback. The band still owes another two albums to their previous label, so let’s hope — for Live Nation’s sake — that the rest of America doesn’t realize all their songs sound the same by then.

George Martin Honored By Beatles Widows at Grammy Event Famed Beatles producer George Martin was honored with the Grammy Foundation Leadership award by the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison at a ceremony Saturday night in Los Angeles. Both Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison chaired the event, which honored Martin’s humanitarian and charitable efforts. While Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were both listed as “event chairs,” neither was in attendance. Several artists came out to honor the “Guinness World Records’ most successful producer ever,” with Jeff Beck, Michael McDonald, Tom Jones, Burt Bacharach, pianist Dave Grusin and the band America all performing at the event, all of whom had previously worked with Martin after the producer’s work with the Fab Four. “Awards don’t come much better than this,” said the 82-year-old Martin. “I’ve been so lucky to work with so many wonderful people, and great talent all my life.”

Nickelback Sign 360 Deal with Live Nation Nickelback have signed a three-album/three tour 360 deal with Live Nation, joining a roster that already includes Madonna, Jay-Z and Shakira. The contract is estimated to be worth between $50-$70 million. In terms of numbers, Nickelback may be the safest bet Live Nation has invested in so far, as the band’s most recent album All the Right Reasons has sold roughly ten million copies worldwide, and their latest tour of North America and Australia grossed more than $67 million. However, Nickelback still owe their current label, Roadrunner Records, another two albums before they’ll be able to record anything for Live Nation. In addition to the touring and recording angles, Live Nation will also handle the band’s merchandising, website, licensing, sponsorship, fan club, DVDs, endorsements, secondary ticketing and broadcasting rights. Nickelback’s signing marks the second artist, to sign with Live Nation since the departure of CEO Michael Cohl, who stepped down after a disagreement over the direction the concert giant should take. Ironically, Cohl reportedly preferred signing artists to 360 deals while other board members were more reluctant. [Photo: Getty]

News Ticker: Sonny Bono, Charles Manson, Radiohead, Rolling Stones A tabloid alleges that singer/congressman Sonny Bono was assassinated by hitmen because Bono reportedly was about to expose an international drug and weapons ring. Former FBI agent Ted Gunderson tells America’s Globe, “It’s nonsense for anyone to now try to suggest that Bono died after crashing into a tree. Instead, there’s powerful proof he was assassinated.” Singer/songwriter/mass murderer Charles Manson has released his new album One Mind as a free download via Creative Commons. Nine Inch Nails‘ Ghosts I-IV was also released via CC. Love Radiohead but hate MySpace? Thom Yorke and the boys have you covered with Waste Central, an all-new Radiohead-based social networking site where fans can interact, post videos and discuss live shows. The Rolling Stones have joined up with YouTube to launch a new web channel where fans can submit questions to the band, after which Mick or Keith will video-answer the best of the bunch.

On the Bus With Paolo Nutini: Kid Rock Stories, Drinks, “Guitar Hero” Battles After Amy Winehouse called her tour off due to that pesky exhaustion problem, twenty-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini forged ahead alone for what is now a headlining tour of North America. “New Shoes” Nutini (who is now booked for the Led Zeppelin-headling tribute show to his record label mentor, Ahmet Ertegun) let Rock & Roll Daily take a look inside his tour bus before his show at the Fillmore in New York last night. Twelve people are packed onto the bus for a tour that already seen Nutini playing with Elvis Costello and Feist, and partying with VMAs lightweight champ Kid Rock. Unfortunately, Nutini insisted that the band had “obviously hidden the drugs and guns” before we hopped aboard, but take a look at our photo tour to get a taste of the singer’s drinking philosophy, Guitar Hero insecurities and tales of buses that keep moving without drivers.

Singing Puppet Beats Out Three Musicians to Take Home “Talent” Prize Rock Daily apologizes for not bringing you this astonishing news yesterday: During Tuesday night’s finale of America’s Got Talent, ventriloquist Terry Fator and his dummy beat out three boring ol’ human singers to take home the American Idol for People With Freakish Skills show’s million-dollar prize. To be fair, Fator and his turtle puppet delivered stunning versions of tunes by Garth Brooks and Etta James during the course of the competition, and performed a rendition of Roy Orbison’s “Crying” to celebrate his win. Fator’s fellow finalists included a reggae singer called Cas Haley, Butterscotch the beatboxer and a country crooner named Julienne Irwin, all of whom perform with their mouths open and are therefore obviously less impressive than Fator (imagine if Blake Lewis had knocked off the wack Bon Jovi routine and just put a sock on his hand?). So what is this master of puppets going to do next? Head to Vegas of course. Fator will be headlining at the city’s Bally resort beginning next month. And don’t forget that Idol spin-off American Band is heading your way soon, too. Maybe Sad Kermit will make a cameo.
