Apocalyptica Album: “Worlds Collide”
 Description :
In addition to laying claim to being (most likely) the world's only heavy metal band composed entirely of cellists, Apocalyptica are also compulsively listenable. The group's sixth studio album continues their trend of dramatic, intense ensemble work that veers from sweeping lyricism to thunderous staccato riffing. Slayer's Dave Lombardo contributes drum work, upping the intensity considerably. Other guests include vocalists Christina Scabia, Corey Taylor, and Till Lindermann from Rammstein (who sings a German-language version of David Bowie's "Heroes"). Overall, WORLDS COLLIDE is a satisfying head-warp from these genre-smashing Swedes.

- Metal Transcending Metal
I have long been a fan of both heavy metal and classical music. I grew up listening to Black Sabbath, and later got into Dio and Metallica. My favorite classical music has to be anything with cellos in it. When I came across a video on YouTube earlier this year of four guys playing cellos covering a Metallica tune (Enter Sandman), I could hardly believe my ears (and eyes). Having checked out the CD that that track came from,
and being blown away by it, I couldn't resist getting their new CD when it came out in April. I wasn't disappointed. APOCALYPTICA takes my experience of metal to a whole new level. Their chording and the way they phrase lines and modulate from key to key -- even the intervals they use -- makes this album a rich aesthetic experience. Driving, wailing, screeching, and bowing hard or soft and haunting as each composition demands, the music on "Worlds Collide" pushes the genre to new heights. The vocals add a nuance to the music not found on their earliest CD. The addition of the drums and other typical rock instruments only enhances the strangeness of the experience; this is a powerful world--one that you should really try out!

- Better than I expected.
I purchased the CD after hearing the song S.O.S ( anything but love ).
It was worth the price just for that song. The music is Haunting.
Cristina Scabbia , from Lacuna Coil, does the vocals.
She is amazing !!!! I give that song 4 stars !!!!
there are some other guests doing vocals on the cd that are very good as well. the rest of the songs are instrumentals, also good.
I really like the cd, I'm glad I purchased it & feel it was worth the price.
I'll be looking into getting more cd's from this artist.

- Starting to show signs of wear...
I've been a fan of the Finnish Metal-cellists since "Plays Metallica". Who can forget the first time they heard "Enter Sandman" from the Black Album and then to have that reimagined by these guys and still make the hair stand up on the back of your neck? Genius. Their self-titled 'debut' a few years ago now was amazing, showcasing another side to these re-inventionists. A few albums later, and the idea of Apocalyptica, while possibly at the right place at the right time (nu-metal clutters the airways) feels a tad worn. It's too bad that this band didn't really catch on until this popular wave. I would've much rather had these guys at the forfront of a movement than just being one of the many, many voices that now define the current musical trends.
It's not that 'Worlds Collide' is a bad album, its just not stunning, IMO. The vocalists, while popular, don't do justice to the overall feel of Apocalyptica and yet I wouldn't be surprised if your average musical consumer doesn't regard these songs as the best part of this album. To each their own.
