Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution Linkin Park’s annual Projekt Revolution Tour kicks off tonight outside of Boston, so Rock Daily sat down with LP’s Chester Bennington and co-headliner Chris Cornell to talk about this summer’s jaunt. “What I like about doing a touring festival, especially Projekt Rev, is the fact these are bands that I can get really excited about since I’m part of the reason they’re there. For me to be able to bring out Mindless Self Indulgence — a band that I’ve always liked and I’ve felt that they’ve never really gotten the love that they deserve — to see them show up and play with another band like Saosin and 5,000 kids are showing up at noon, just like, ‘Yes, it’s happening.’” Click below for more on Projekt Revolution (which also features the Bravery, Busta Rhymes, Ashes Divide, Hawthorne Heights and Atreyu) and check back in tomorrow for Rock Daily’s full report on opening night. • Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution [Photo: Getty]

On the Charts: “High School Musical 2? Enjoys Another Week at the Top Before Kanye and 50 Arrive The Big News: Call it the lull before the storm — in the week before Kanye, 50 Cent and country star Kenny Chesney released their blockbuster records, sales for the top fifty albums were as slow as they’ve ever been. The soundtrack to High School Musical 2 stayed on top for a fourth week — the first album to reign for that long since 50’s The Massacre in 2005 — moving 164,690 units. The slow week helped Fergie jump from number five to number two, despite dropping 4 percent in sales, to 48,590, and the Hannah Montana 2 soundtrack jumped from four to three despite slumping 20 percent to 46,976. Debuts: Michigan hardcore band Chiodos entered at number five, selling 38,696 albums. The next new record doesn’t come until number forty-one, where metal quartet Every Time I Die landed. At number forty-eight, Christian act Israel & New Breed sold 11,703, and global fusion star Manu Chao debuted at seventy-one. Expect considerably bigger action in this space next week. Last Week’s Sales Heroes?: Devotion act Casting Crowns dropped from number two to four in its second week of release. Atlanta rapper Yung Joc took a bigger slide, from three to eleven. Atreyu dropped even further, from eight to twenty-nine, and Ben Harper sank from number nine to twenty-four. The Hairspray soundtrack, Now! 25, and, of course, Nickelback, remain top-ten fixtures. Gallows team up with Biffy and Cancer Bats!completed work on the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2006 debut Orchestra Of Wolves. The Watford punk have been hard at work in the RAK studios in London with producer GGGarth Richardson (Atreyu, Biffy Clyro, Ugly Kid Joe) and recently invited their friends Cancer Bats and Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil into the studio to record some guest vocals for the release. “There’s some serious mid-’90s hardcore groove on the album,” Cancer Bats vocalist Liam Cormier tells K!. “This is the first time that we have heard any of their new songs, and it sounds great. It’s awesome to be a part of what we might call one of the most anticipated punk rock albums in UK history!” Meanwhile, Biffy’s Simon Neil, has lent his less-gang-like melodies to an another track. “I did some singing on the outro of a track called Graves,” Neil tells K!. “I already knew GGGarth as he worked with us on [Biffy Clyro’s 2007 album] Puzzle and it was great to see him again. I know everyone in camp Biffy think Gallows are really special,” he adds, “and it’s great to have a bond between both camps!” For the full story, pick-up a copy of this week's Kerrang! magazine.

NeverEnding Story Really Never Gonna EndHollywood continues to dredge up your beloved childhood memories and cruelly destroy them. The latest victim is The NeverEnding Story. The 1980s German puppet mindfrak may soon be zombified into a crappy new remake. The ever-hungry Nothing is gathering around the property, with Kathleen Kennedy/Frank Marshall and Leo DiCaprio's Appian Way pecking at its peacefully resting corpse. Of course the potential producers hope to put a "modern spin" on the fantasy tale (based on a German children's book), which means CGI wizard fights and snappy dialogue or something. If you're not familiar with the film—or its weirder, more Jonathan Brandis-y sequel—you should smoke a fat bowl and check it out. Basically a lonely, friendless kid (is there any other kind in movies?) is reading a book about a fantasy land called, um, Fantasia. In hte tale, a mighty Injun named Atreyu is trying to defend the Childlike Empress from The Nothing, a dark and evil force that's eating everything. As the lonely little bugger, Bastian, continues to read the story, he becomes an integral part of it. It's directed, bizarrely, by Wolfgang Peterson and there are lots of puppets and it's the kind of strange, vaguely menacing kids movie that they don't really make anymore—because kids are dumb and coddled and have no imagination or attention span anymore. Now, before we get too doom and gloom, it's important to note that this cabal of producers has only secured the puppet rights thus far. So maybe they're just trying to build their very own luckdragon for personal reasons. Which I would have no problem with. Atreyyyyuuuuuuuu!
