- listen to Aventura and skip the Elvis Martinez tracks...

I bought this album for Aventura ONLY. I hadn't even heard of Elvis Martinez. The first track, Directo Al Corazon, sounded nasily and flat (Elvis Martinez), and it really didn't pop for me. The Aventura tunes are a whole different story though. From CUANDO VOLVERAS, to AMOR BONITO, to ALEJANDRA, and finally EL CORO DOMINICANO (which is more of a merengue, by the way), these guys know how to blend, make you swoon and leave you feeling romantic. Now, that is what I call bachata.

*Note: The album alternates Elvis Martinez with Aventura.*

Disfrutalo!

- El Camaron vs Los Pretty boys

Wow look at Aventura on the front cover they must be all of 15 years old in that pic! I believe this was released in 2002 but this is defintely earlier than that. The Aventura songs, alternating with "tipico" bachatero Elvis, are among their earliest and pre date "We Broke the rules." El Camaron Elvis Martinez is more of a tradtional bachatero and has some great melodies, but Aventura are the "golden boys" so alot of people would buy this only for them. I think it is an average outing by both parties, Aventura sound good but also sound juvenile, which ismwhat they were at the time, and it is a common thing to put 2 artists on the same album. Bachata and Merengue artists have alliances sometimes, such as Oro Solido and Fulanito, and then there are hardcore perico ripiao battles like El Prodigio vs Jovanny Polanco. This is more of a straight ahead bachata double bill, something for the islanders and something for the NY'ers, I feel Martinez comes out sounding better here, but overall this is a good album to hear once or twice, no real staying power. "Directo al corazon" opens the album and it is the best song by Elvis too bad he didn't save it for last! Back in the early days of both artists I'm sure they shared stages, Elvis M is not the most handsome fella, so that makes him a better bachatero! Hahaha look at Antony Santos, the ugly but the BEST that ever did it! Aventura should hook up more with other, lesser known artists like this more often. With groups like Nueva Era sprouting up in droves, Aventura now has to remain the "crowned" as they state on their duet with Tego Calde "Enviada." I think they stand with the big leagues though( Antony Santos, Luis Vargas, etc) and that is saying alot!
