"The clox" is a band that brings an original and melodic sound to the genre of Brit pop. There is something different that separates this project from the rest. Perhaps it's the three dimensional approach to the soft yet aggressive and renowned music or maybe it is the memorable simplicity of the meaningful lyrics. Currently residing in New York City, "the clox" Is a musical project that got its roots in Kazakhstan in the year 2005, at the time known to its fans as "the escape." Singer /songwriter/lead guitarist Denis Ornbekov, formerly a professional soccer player in his home country, fronted "the escape" and front's "the clox" today. In the year 2007 Dennis quits professional soccer and moves to the US with the band's drummer, Ruslan "Colonel" Baimurzin, to pursue music. In Kazakhstan, Ruslan was involved in another musical project named "plastic trees." For this project he wrote music and drummed. The band gained some success and toured on occasion in Kazakhstan and Russia. In September of 2007, Ruslan and Denis met a rhythm guitarist and Russian songwriter, Igor Reznik. The tree found themselves intrigued with each others personality and immediately decided that they wanted to pursue music together and evolve as a whole. The trio developed two projects: the first project being "The clox" which would consist of Denis's songwriting and the other, "Pseudonym" which oriented itself with Russian rock. After three months of serious rehearsing, "the clox" began performing regularly in clubs in Manhattan and Brooklyn. After one of these performances a young man named Alexander Prokofyev came up to the stage and expressed gratitude and interest in the band's style. At the next rehearsal Alexander would become the band's bassist. Influenced by such bass guitar giants as the muse's Christopher Tony Wolstenholme and jack Pastorius, Alexander added richness and dimension to the band's already memorable style. As a four piece band, "the clox" works productively to develop not just as a group but as individual musicians. It is the work ethic and respect that each band member has for each other that allows the musicians to work tirelessly. Drugs and alcohol is never an option. "The clox" always performs, rehearses, and records sober. Nevertheless, the band is always able to give the audience 100% of their energy. "We are very lucky to be able to play music together. We love every minute of it, and we don't need something synthetic to feel bliss doing it. If we could rehearse and perform 24 hours a day that is what we would do." ---Denis Orynbekov.
