From the first song "Black Sabbath" to the final song "Wicked World", the album BLACK SABBATH came into this unsuspecting world & scared the living daylights out of everybody who first listened to this heavy metal classic. Tony Iommi's guitar is haunting, eerie, scary, & possesed an evil sound that many later metal guitarists have tried to imitate but never quite duplicated. Geezer Butler's bass seemed like a whomping mass of unearthly sounds. Bill Ward's drumming combined jazz-like influences as hear in "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" with the screaming hellion of a guitar that is Iommi. The only fault in this album was that of Ozzy Osbourne's vocal effort. While not bad, Osbourne cannot be confused as great singer. But to his credit, he works with what he has & for a long time, Ozzy's voice has become synonymous to the legend of Black Sabbath. His voice is haunting & yet resonated a bit of pathos.
This import contains one track that is not included in the US release. That song is "Evil Woman" (not to be confused with ELO's hit song). The import also boasts vintage photos & original album art, complete with an upside-down cross & an incantation that was seen in it's original LP release.
Any heavy metal fan who values his metal collection has to include this groundbreaking album. It's a definate must-have!!!
This record released in the 1970 was probebly the very first heavy metal record ever released, apart from other super bands such as Led Zeppelin and Deep purple. However, this record must be the first dark metal album(unlike Led Zeppelin and Deep purple)Black sabbath originally formed the year 1967.Deep purple and Led Zeppelin both formed a year later. This album has a extremely appealing sound(the music is superior to any other thing that iv'e listend to before. The cover art is also very appealing.Starting from the rain and churchbells in the self titled track(Black sabbath)this is a great song and is probenly one of the heaviest one the record. After the self titled song it goes on to the wizard-a great song, and actually one of the heaviest on the album,it features ozzy on the harmonica and also vocals. Then the album goes to the tracks-N.I.B and behind the wall of sleep.Behind the wall of sleep and N.I.B are both famous rock songs, and both are very good.Evil woman is a great song that reminds me of Deep purple. This was Black sabbaths first single ever released.Warning is another great song showing ozzy osbourn'e emotional side, and Sleeping village is a very good-short and haunting song. All the band members perform very well on this album-The powerful drums,Guitar playing,Ozzy osbourne's vocals and the thumping bass. Over all this is a great Debut for Black sabbath and I highly recomend a purchase.
