Kanye West Will Always Be My Homecoming QueenEver wonder what the Apple Ads with the dancing people would look like if all of the dancers had autism? (Ed Note: Relax. All my children will have autism.) Well, now we know, thanks to the re-re stylings of Coldplay's Chris Martin, who makes an appearance in Kanye West's latest opus, Schindler's List... I mean, "Homecoming." The black and white video for what is personally is my favorite song off of the Graduation album, is a bit of a let down, in that it's a black and white video of Kanye just sort of moseying of around Chicago, staring at himself in the giant mirrored lima bean downtown, just sorta kickin' the dirt, thinking of the olden days. Meanstwhile, Chris Martin's silhouette remains hovering in the background, doing weird jazz handy things while also providing the song's melody. OK, OK, the video isn't that bad... it's almost good. But the question remains: Is Chris Martin the Shannon "Blind Melon" Hoon of the new millennium? His floppy hand gestures suggest: Yes. Click to watch the vid after the jump.

LISTEN UP: Cut Your Hair While Ya Still Got ItOooh, the new Stephen Malkmus album due out in March appears to have leaked. Or maybe he just hasn't stopped jamming since '05. (Cause = Time) Big fan of "Teenager In Love" by The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, although if I recall my own experiences, being a teenager in love sounded a lot more like Rush and ELP. (Merry Swankster) Hate Something Beautiful salutes the upcoming Breeders reunion at Coachella with an mp3 of their impossible-to-dislike single "Cannonball." No word on that Blind Melon reunion, though -- can't imagine what the holdup is... This remix of "Sister Savior" by The Rapture ought to nicely fill your "Sounds like Depeche Mode without actually being Depeche Mode" quota for the week. (The Music Slut) Finally, a decent Robert Pollard track comes to us via the outstandingly named blog, Baby You Got A Stew Goin'!

LISTEN UP: Things You Probably Never Thought You Would HearHere's now-defunct indie rock darlings Luna doing a surprisingly awesome cover of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up". And here's hoping that they're also planning to do an "Opposites Attract" music video with an animated cat who can rap. (Vulture) And here's six words I'd never planned to type: a new song from Blind Melon. (Stereogum) How about a song called "Eli" from a band called "Caribou" that actually sounds sort of great? (Untitled Records) Or maybe a soft, moving ballad by a young lady named Emily Jane White all about "Wild Tigers I Have Known"? (Gorilla vs Bear) Or maybe a sick new track from Lupe Fiasco, far in advance of the new album? (Lupe's MySpace)

LISTEN UP: Who Will Save Your Soul? Indieblogheaven posted 3 Bob Dylan tracks today, but only one of them is performed by Bob Dylan. Download The Format's cover of "Simple Twist of Fate" and just pretend that the James Blunt cover never happened. Unarocks has a dozen Christmas tracks by bands like Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Death Cab and more. Some might say that the only reason I'm mentioning that The Late Greats has 3 Jewel Christmas tracks is because I just want to post a picture of her. They'd be right. Snakes Got A Blog has a handful of covers today, including tracks by Blind Melon, Islands, Voxtrot and Metric. Finally, Said The Gramophone has a list of their Top 35 songs of the year, complete with mp3's. Get cracking.

LISTEN UP: Welcome To My Black ParadeI'm buying the new My Chemical Romance album tomorrow and nobody can stop me. Not Modern Music [1], who posted the new single, not Alex [2] who made fun of me when I declared that out loud, not anybody. So there. The Music Slut [3] is preparing for the inevitable Courtney Love autobiography by posting the ancient track "Uncrushworthy". Glorious Noise [4] has another track off the new Harry Nilsson/John Lennon cover album by The Walkmen. They don't disappoint. Culture Bully [5] remembers two bands that are no more: Blind Melon & The Darkness. R.I.P, you drug addled one-hit-wonders, you. Finally, I don't plan on actually downloading the two Liz Phair tracks that Zeon's Music Blog [6] posted today... I just wanted to add them to this list so I could include a picture of her. Your Weekend To Do's [To Do]Before we get started with this weekend's To Do's, Defamer would like to bid a fond farewell to Intern Kerry, who has been writing the copy you have seen in this space for darn near the last four years. Everyone at Defamer, both past and present, would like to thank her for not only keeping us all abreast of what we should and should not be doing on a nightly basis in Los Angeles, but also for making us laugh. Don't fret, though, To Do's will be back on Monday, albeit in a slightly different form. Now, on with the weekend activities... FRIDAY · Your evening's musical selections include Blind Melon at the El Rey (we're not sure how that is possible, unless The Bee Girl is now on lead vox), Stiff Little Fingers at the House of Blues, Berlin at Crash Mansion. · Maria Shriver will be signing her book, Just Who Will You Be?, at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove. If you're looking to answer that question, we suggest that you don't choose "the governor's mistress" ... she won't be pleased. Those cheekbones will cut a bitch! · Funny dudes Dave Holmes (a recent PrivacyWatch star!) and Scott Gimple are hosting The Friday Forty over at IO West. It's part comedy, part game show and all awesome. SATURDAY · Tonight's musical lineup includes Nortec Collective at the Echo, The Warlocks at the Smell and John Doe at McCabe's Guitar Shop. · Out of the Box Events presents the Downtown Scavenger Hunt. As Flavorpill describes, "the game leads teams of six throughout downtown, as they follow clues to hidden gems of LA history and architecture." It should be fun, not boring! Location given with registration, which means you may have to bring an egg to a convenience store to find out where it all goes down, 90210 style. SUNDAY · If you're the type of cat who likes to close the weekend off with a nice beer buzz and ringing ear drums, try Duran Duran at the Nokia Theater, Lyrics Born at the Key Club and Blood on the Wall at the Echo. You won't be disapp
