"Do You Like Rock Music?" by British Sea PowerYes. Oh wait, that title’s supposed to be a rhetorical question. British Sea Power’s third record intentionally runs the gamut on different alt-rock sounds that have waxed and waned in popularity over the last few years. The album's variety—and willingness to use sounds of the genre that aren't necessarily en vogue—shows that the band is answering their own question with a resounding "duh." That they’re aware of this gives Rock Music/a certain feel of deliberateness, which begs the return question: if they could appropriate whatever sound they felt like, why not push themselves a bit to new, different sounds, or arrangements? Throughout the first half of the record, they riff on the post-punky sounds of Bloc Party and Gang of Four during “No Lucifer,” and there’s some wispy, faux-crecendoing a la Arcade Fire during “Waving Flags” and “Canvey Islands.” As with most current bands, there is the obligatory '80s, Echo and the Bunnymen-meets-New OrderRide or Luna, than the twitchy

Madonna Stopped By Bloc Party Security, Mastodon Guitarist Hospitalized Post-VMAs, Foxy Brown Announces New LP Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke tells the Chiago Tribune that at Live Earth London, Madonna attempted to visit his band backstage, only to be confronted by the group’s security officer, who had no idea who the biggest pop star in the world was. The guard put the Material Mom in a headlock, though Okereke says Madonna escaped quite easily. The singer-guitarist adds he could hear Madonna threatening to “kill” security from the hallway. Yet another VMA-related calamity: Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds has been hospitalized for the past two days with a “severe head injury” after being jumped following his VMAs performance with Foo Fighters. Ludacris and Photobucket.com are teaming up for a “Celebrity Chick” look-alike contest. The competition, in which women are asked to post pictures of themselves trying to impersonate famous female celebrities, will also promote Luda’s newest single, aptly titled “Celebrity Chick.” In what could be a potential boy-band supergroup, *NSYNC’s JC Chasez is writing songs for his former rivals the Backstreet Boys’ new album. We still prefer Sureshot. Newly caged jailbird Foxy Brown will release a new album, Brooklyn’s Don Diva, on November 20th. Brown was recently sentenced to spend a year in Riker’s Island for a whole bunch of broken laws.

"Hideout" by Film SchoolIf past Film School releases featured a band stylistically stuck between the narrow hallways of post-punk and the woozy haze of shoegaze, the San Francisco unit's latest (and second for Beggars Banquet) seems to be a declaration of choice: "We've sided with the dream pop, the pedals and the texture-heavy gurgle of the latter, thank you." After all, Film School's heart has always seemed to lie with a more adventurous approach. Even on 2006's danceable self-titled jaunt, mastermind Greg Bertens' sensibilities proved much darker and more complex than those of, say, post-punk contemporaries Bloc Party or Editors. But after a gun-point robbery, the theft of Film School's van, and some serious personnel changes, Bertens' songwriting seems even darker here. Hideout's songs benefit greatly from the gloom, as the icy winds of "Blizzard Scout" or the acoustic warble of "Must Try Easier" quickly prove. It's this gloom that allows the moments when Bertrens lets light shine in on

AT&T Vows No Censorship During Webcasts of Austin City Limits; Plus Full ACL Broadcast Schedule After enduring serious flak for cutting out pieces of Pearl Jam’s Lollapalooza performance — the pieces during which the band criticized President Bush — on AT&T’s Blue Room Webcast, the company has decided to loosen up, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. “AT&T’s Blue Room has adopted a new policy with respect to live Webcasted performances, and that is that we’re not going to do any audio editing for any reason,” said AT&T spokeswoman Tiffany O’Brien Nels. “We’re letting it rip, as the saying goes. We do reserve the right to edit the video feed, but we will only do that either through camera angles or video blackouts for excessive sexual content — nudity or simulated sex acts. Because the site is not eighteen and over and we do believe we still have some obligation to the younger audience, you will now see strong viewer discretion messaging before and during the Webcast.” Yesterday the company issued a press release announcing they’ll be Webcasting from the Austin City Limits festival today through Sunday. We got our hands on their full Blue Room schedule, which includes MIA, Arctic Monkeys, Paolo Nutini, Joss Stone, Spoon, Regina Spektor and Bloc Party. Check out the full Webcast lineup after the jump. And stay tuned to Rock Daily for full ACL fest coverage, including video, photos and a wrap-up report.
