LISTEN UP: The Rawking Refuses To Stop! Throughout Marchy March and the Funky Month, we'll be bringing you mp3-enriched Listen Up posts written by some of our favorite music bloggers from the world wide Interwebs. Today, some rawk talk with David from The Rawking Refuses To Stop! See his selections, after the jump! In case you weren't at SXSW last week, Stereogum chronicled every moment of booze-fueled indie hyperbole. Is it too early for an Islands backlash? (Stereogum) They're not from Sweden, but that doesn't stop Massachusetts' Pants Yell! from nailing this cover of Jens Lekman's "Tram #7 To Heaven." (You Ain't No Picasso) Speaking of twee, here's a mix that should satisfy all your jangling and cuddling needs for the next 40 minutes or so. (Skatterbrain) In case you missed it, the best cover of last year was Boston band the Main Drag's frantic, fantastic take LCD Soundsystem's anthemic "All My Friends." (Cokemachineglow) And finally, my blog is celebrating our third birthday with an exclusive new track from indie-poppers Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. Come help us blow out the candles! Minnie Mouse's Junkie Sister
I think it's the bow. Here's some pics from the MTV Europe Video Music Awards that took place in Munich, Germany yesterday. Avril Lavigne won big. She picked up two awards for Most Addictive Track for "Girlfriend" (a song she reportedly ripped off), and Solo Artist of the Year. Those Europeans better wake up and smell the stank punk poseur. Amy Winehouse performed and accepted an award and was her usual crackish, barely functioning self.
Britain's Amy Winehouse collected the Artists' Choice award but her live performance of "Back to Black" at the packed OlympiaHalle in Germany will have done little to allay concerns after drug-related problems.
She accepted her award with a brief "Thanks" before walking off stage. Minutes later she stumbled through her song with a thin, wailing voice instead of the rich growl that has won her so many fans.
Winehouse appeared to have trouble remembering the words to her own song, her dancing was stilted and out of step and she was unsteady on her feet.
By contrast, Pete Doherty and his band Babyshambles reportedly were un-crackish and sounding tight. Jesus Christ, there goes 3/4 of my material. And what the hell is up with Nelly Furtado? Why does she look like Morgan Fairchild? Did Timbaland approve that?
Many more photos (Avril Lavigne, Pete Doherty, Nelly Furtado, Dave Grohl, Boris Becker, Kelly Rowland, Dave Gahan, Snoop Dogg, Mika, Good Charlotte, Michael Stipe, Wyclef Jean, Nicole Scherzinger, Shaggy) from the MTV Europe Music Awards after the jump.
