Rewind: The Week in Rock DailyPhoto: Kravitz/FilmMagic We caught soon-to-be Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Metallica’s surprise SXSW performance, then hung out with James Hetfield to talk Guitar Hero. Plus, the heavy metal gods announced more tour dates, released a “Broken, Beat and Scarred” video and invited Jason Newsted to join them at the Rock Hall ceremony (”The Black Album will be back,” Newsted told RS.) And that cop who urinated on fans at a Metallica show in Boston is no longer a police officer. Kanye West, Jane’s Addiction, Devo, OutKast’s Big Boi, the Hold Steady, Circle Jerks, Juliette and the New Romantiques, Silversun Pickups, Airborne Toxic Event and Little Boots are just a fraction of the big-name artists and emerging acts Rock Daily caught down in Austin, Texas last weekend. Check out our SXSW coverage for the full scoop. We learned that Billy Corgan is to Smashing Pumpkins what Axl Rose is to Guns n’ Roses after drummer Jimmy Chamberlin left the band. Chamberlin explained he couldn’t “cash the check” anymore. Prince finally launched his colorful Lotusflow3r Website, giving fans an early taste of his three new albums and allowing them to watch all that footage the Web Sheriff banned from YouTube for the price of $77. Lotusflow3r, MPLSound and Elixir all hit Target Sunday.

Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution Linkin Park’s annual Projekt Revolution Tour kicks off tonight outside of Boston, so Rock Daily sat down with LP’s Chester Bennington and co-headliner Chris Cornell to talk about this summer’s jaunt. “What I like about doing a touring festival, especially Projekt Rev, is the fact these are bands that I can get really excited about since I’m part of the reason they’re there. For me to be able to bring out Mindless Self Indulgence — a band that I’ve always liked and I’ve felt that they’ve never really gotten the love that they deserve — to see them show up and play with another band like Saosin and 5,000 kids are showing up at noon, just like, ‘Yes, it’s happening.’” Click below for more on Projekt Revolution (which also features the Bravery, Busta Rhymes, Ashes Divide, Hawthorne Heights and Atreyu) and check back in tomorrow for Rock Daily’s full report on opening night. • Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell Preview Projekt Revolution [Photo: Getty]

News Ticker: Slash, Fall Out Boy, John Mayer Slash may get his Dr. Pepper after all. Asked by the BBC whether the original Guns N’ Roses could ever reunite, the guitarist said it would take “a twist of fate.” “It’s a possibility, but there are so many big things that would have to change before it was even possible,” said Slash. “It’s not in the foreseeable future, as far as I’m concerned.” Bad weather finally forced Fall Out Boy to cancel their trip to Antarctica after a week of postponements. The band hoped to play the frozen continent in order to make the Guinness Book of World Records as the first act to play all seven continents. If being a rocker and commandeering cruise ships doesn’t work out, John Mayer can look forward to a job at ESPN. Listen to Mayer’s hilarious attempt at play-by-play during the Boston Red Sox/Oakland Athletics game in Tokyo. Hype Monitor: Junius, Dam-Funk, Laura VeirsPhoto by George Dubose The Band: Junius The Buzz: Breathtaking Boston metal band pulls off a perfect hybrid of Neurosis and the Smiths, striking a stunning balance of brutality and beauty. Their latest album, The Martyrdrom of a Catastrophist, is a concept record about catastrophe theorist Immanuel Velikovsky, exploring his insistence on a chaotic universe. Its songs are spellbinding and heartbreaking, gripping from the first note to the last. A hard rock dream come true. Listen If: You dress i

Hype Monitor: Ringers, Olof Arnalds, GigiThe Band: Ringers The Buzz: Certifiable proof punk is far from dead, this Boston band that sprung from the ashes of the band Sirens (they have a thing for one-word plurals apparently) give hope to anyone who loves ragged, hook-laden music delivered with a throat that sounds like it’s been floor-sanded for six years. Listen If: You still have your beat-up leather jacket from when you were 15, even if it doesn’t fit quite the way it used to. Key Track: The impossible-to-deny “Conswayla,” with a ch

Kiss Piss Scandal: Man Arrested For Urinating on Fan at ConcertPhoto: AFP/Getty In what now seems to be an unfortunate trend at Boston rock concerts, a man was arrested at Kiss‘ TD Garden show on October 5th after urinating on the concertgoer standing in front of him. According to the BPDNews blotter, a woman was watching the Sonic Boom band in action when suddenly she experienced “a warm feeling on the back of her leg.” The victim turned around to see the source of the warmth, only to discover the man standing behind her was urinating. Rumors of an inevitable breakup for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group quickly began circulating, but Perry calmed fans’ fears by telling the Boston Globe that he was disappointed by the tour’s sudden end, but doesn’t think this is the end of Aerosmith. “Maybe we have three more reco
