Boyz II Men: Shawn Stockman (vocals, various instruments); Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris (vocals).

Additional personnel include: MC Lyte (rap vocals).

Recording information: A.T.O.J. Philadelphia, PA; Hole In Da Wall, Philadelphia, PA.

Record-setting R&B vocal group Boyz II Men have never been averse to covers, having scored mega-hits in the early-1990s with both the Five Satins doo-wop classic "In the Still of the Night (I'll Remember)" and the G.C. Cameron classic "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday." On 2004's THROWBACK, the group tries its hand at an assortment of vintage R&B tunes and succeeds with an array of fine melodies.

THROWBACK is the outfit's first release after the departure of Michael McCary, but the trio's vocal harmonies are as tight and alluring as ever. In fact, it's when the harmonies take center stage that the album is at its most appealing. The group reinterprets Michael Jackson's gorgeous ballad "Human Nature," accompanied by only a few African drums and a light acoustic guitar, as their voices examine the subtle beauty of the song. The ensemble finds an entirely new angle to Hall & Oates's "Sara Smile," but Teddy Pendergrass's sensual "Close the Door" is rendered faithful to the original. Although the boys aren't the superstars they were in the '90s, THROWBACK proves they still know their way around a good song.

- Very nice gentlemen
I absolutely love this CD. They've always had a very nice touch and it's evident on "Throwback" - good song selections to cover. It starts up beat and gradually winds down, ending with a very nice cover of the Stylistics "You Make Me Feel Brand New." Their vocal capabilities on "Time Will Reveal" are amazing, especially Nate's - great range. Other favorites are "Let It Whip," "Close the Door," "For the Love of You," "Human Nature," and "Sara Smile." I would definately reccommend this CD to members of the old and new generations. Lastly, I'd like to compliment Nate, Shawn, and Wanya on "Throwback," and wish them much luck with their new found freedom:)
P.S. - The enhanced CD feature does in fact allow you to play the CD on your PCs.

- Great New Album....but definetly misses Mike
First off, I want to praise the Boyz for all of their legal troubles that they have faced and still managed to come back strong, with energy and a zest for always willing to give their fans the best of them. I applaud each of them for their wonderful musical ability and songwriting abilites as well as their eloquant way of sharing the gift that God has given them. I also want to praise specific tracks."Let It Whip" is a perfect introduction into the new album with a funky groove, and a wonderful arrangement. "Let's Stay Together", the Al Green classic is sung here very sweetly and convincingly in the beginning by Shawn "Slim" Stockman and continues til its wonderful ending, however it is the standout "Sara Smile" with its luscious guitar arrangement, and vocal arrangement that truly stands as the standout on this diverse album of soul classics.
I have been a HUGE fan of the group since "Motownphilly" , but I think there are some changes that I would like to see done on the next album. First off, I would like to limit the producers to maybe a few, like when they realeased "II" back in 1995. The next album I would like to see Babyface, Jam and Lewis, and David Foster producing the record. I would also like to bring in Diane Warren and Carol Bayer Sager to pen a tune or two. I would also like to have the Boyz writting and producing. Put all of these heads together, and take the best songs from the bunch and release the album. I would also encourage Koch Entertainment(their label) to try and convince Micheal McCary to come back to the group(McCary retired in 2003 due to back problems). I strongly feel the are the greatest R@B group ever. Just to note, the MAJORITY of their best songs they have done have been written and produced by Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis and Babyface. Throw David Foster in that mix, and this album would be ther best since "II". I really would love to see that happen

- Boyz II Men at its finest
I'm just glad that they've released another album. I didnt know whether this was going to happen or not. I have heard some of the original songs on BIIMen's Throwback cd. But even with that they do a fine job of covering and making there own some classic songs. I remember "Let It Whip" back in the day and it is cool that they decided to that song on this cd. also "What You Won't Do For Love" featuring MC Lyte it is hot and i dont care what others say about this CD. Because i know i've been down with BIIMen since there first CD. Also other favs on this cd "Human Nature" with Claudette Ortiz from City High. Its all that, the background, lead vocals and everything.
They do a great job on this song as well. There are various other songs that i know folks already enjoyed back in the day. So just look at it as Boyz II Men paying homage to some classic songs and doing it up the right way. Big ups to them on starting their own label and best wishes to Mike McCrary. We'll miss ya man.
Looking forward to that next Boyz II Men project. So dont look at all these negative review talking about being fans of BIIMen. But still bashing this CD and not understanding where its coming from. Its just good music.
I love the cd and will continue to love it and being a fan of Boyz II Men.
"Throwback" in the house and rocking it the crazy route!!

- Different kind of sound
B2M did something different this time. This is not the sound I'm used to hearing from them, but I still like it. My favorite quartet turned trio took come top classics and gave them their own flavor. I absolutely love the title of this album - ingenious! The old school R&B sound took some getting used to, but if anybody could pull it off, it would be this group, and they do it well.

- Great for Older Listeners
This is a throwback. I'm much older and I love most of the songs in this collection by the original artists. My favorite song was "You Make Me Feel Brand New" by the Stylistics. The cover was almost as good as the original. The cover of "Let It Whip" by the Dazz Band was great. My guess is teenagers would find this collection too slow and boring but us oldies but goodies would like it a lot.
