Mellencamp, Young and Matthews Bring Farm Aid to New England John Mellencamp has revealed the details of this year’s Farm Aid concert, to be held September 20th at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Mellencamp will be joined by co-headliners Neil Young, Dave Matthews and Willie Nelson, with more top artists to be announced soon. This year also marks the first time in the event’s history that the concert will take place in the New England area. “New England was built on the strength of independent family farmers,” said Mellencamp. “We can honor that independent spirit by joining Farm Aid to grow the movement that is changing the way all of America eats.” As in years past, the concert will “feature family-farm identified, local and organic foods at concessions, setting an example of the many ways that family farm food can be integrated into the general marketplace.” Since its creation in 1985, Farm Aid has helped raise over $30 million for programs that support farmers, expand the Good Food Movement and promote food from family farms. Tickets for this year’s Farm Aid, which is presented by Whole Foods Market and Horizon Organic, go on sale July 28th via Ticketmaster. [Photo: Getty]

Kerrang! Tour charity auctionKerrang! reader Don Johnson has organised a charity online auction. Don went to the Kerrang! Tour in January and got all the bands on the tour to sign a flag. The flagged was autographed and defaced by members of Mindless Self Indulgence, Dir en grey, Bring Me The Horizon, Black Tide and In Case Of Fire. Black Tide picked the charity of their choice, and all proceeds from the sale of the flag will go to Save The Children UK. You can bid on the signed flag HERE. Abandon Ship! A Short Guide to the World of Rock and Roll CruisesRocking a boat is hardly a new concept, but musicians have gone a bit cruise crazy lately. With the exception of Ben Folds, who recently canceled his own floating gig due to poor ticket sales, stars have been making plans to take to the high seas in record numbers. Here’s a quick guide to six cleverly titled events where music piracy means something totally different than usual: Bands: John Mayer Name: The Mayercraft Carrier Date: February 1-4, 2008 Selling Point: In an apparent nod to Mayer’s background as a Berklee School of Music student, fans are encouraged to bring their own instruments. Bands: Warren Haynes, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Galactic, Soulive, the Funky Meters, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Galactic Name: Jam Cruise 6 Date: January 4-9, 2008 Selling Point: Last year included a Guitar Hero competition and a music-themed Newlywed Game-type event. Bands: Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett Name: The Cayamo Music Cruise Date: February 4, 2008 Selling Point: Um, Emmylou Harris, who has said that the idea of going on a boat “seems a little claustrophobic.” But presumably she’ll muddle through. Bands: Barenaked Ladies, Guster, the New Odds, Jason Plumb and Gaelic Storm Name: Ships & Dip III Date: January 27-February 1, 2008 Selling Point: Passengers can pose for a bare-naked photo on the top deck. Bands: Sister Hazel, Aslyn, Marc Broussard, Andy Davis, David Ryan Harris, Keith Kane of Vertical Horizon, Josh Kelley, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Bain Mattox, Matt Nathanson, Glen Phillips, Sons of William and Toad the Wet Sprocket Name: The Rock Boat VIII Date: January 19-23, 2008 Selling Point: Pro: Sheer quantity of bands mean that you could easily run into a member on the Promenade Deck. Con: You probably won’t be able to recognize them. Bands: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Cowboy Mouth, Blackberry Smoke, Zac Brown Band, Grayson Hill, Kneckdown Name: The Simple Man Cruise 2008 Date: January 10-14, 2008

Kerrang!'s show cancellation - UPDATEThe K! Relentless Energy Drink Tour ended in disappointing circumstances on January 30, when the scheduled show at the 02 Academy Brixton had to be cancelled due to a electrical power failure in the local area. The bands had soundchecked in the venue earlier in the day without problems, but shortly before 6pm on the night power was lost across the Lambeth area, and regrettably, although some electricity was supplied to the venue, this was not sufficient to power the onstage sound and lighting equipment and we were left with no option but to cancel the show. Kerrang!, Relentless, Mindless Self Indulgence, Dir en grey, Bring Me The Horizon, Black Tide and In Case Of Fire and everyone connected with the tour is aware that the cancellation came as a huge disappointment to all 4000 ticket holders for the Brixton show: unfortunately the problems were beyond anyone’s control. We must regrettably announce that, despite the very best intentions of the five bands on the tour, it will not be possible to reschedule the show. Management for all the individual bands involved however are looking to bring their acts back to London as soon as their schedules permit. All ticket holders for the cancelled show should contact their point of purchase for refunds. Please check www.kerrang.com for further updates in the week ahead
