Exclusive: Stream the Entire Les Savy Fav Live Album “After the Balls Drop” This past New Year’s Eve, while many were staring at Dick Clark or standing frigidly in Times Square, art-punk icons Les Savy Fav were preparing to bring their trademark live performance to a sold-out audience of diehard fans at NY’s Bowery Ballroom, which the band will release as a digital album entitled After the Balls Drop on April 29th. But you don’t have to wait until then to hear the live album, as we’re exclusively streaming the entire affair here. “The atmosphere of the show was unique. Our shows are known for being somewhat unique, so it was sort of a double-down, triple unique,” singer Tim Harrington says of the band’s first live album in their thirteen year tenure. It was a night for the band to delve deep into their catalogue, to bust out live renditions of their then-new album Lets Stay Friends and to play a few choice covers of songs. “We thought, ‘What would a party band do,’ Harrington says of the night. “‘If I were DJing, what songs would I just play that you know everyone would just get psyched on?’” Unfortunately, Harrington’s favorite memory of his band’s post-New Year’s Eve show didn’t make After the Balls Drop, due to right issues: The day before, Harrington went to a wholesale distributor of party supplies in NY’s Chinatown area to purchase about a hundred and twenty three-foot-long tubes that shot out confetti when twisted. The tubes were handed out during that show, and fired in unison during the band’s performance of AC/DC’s “TNT.” “It was such a cacophonous mess. It was like swimming in a sea of confetti, or a Backstreet Boys video on crack,” Harrington remembers. Thankfully, covers of the Misfits‘ “Astro Zombies,” Nirvana’s “Sliver,” Pixies‘ “Debaser” and Creedence’s “Hey Tonight” remained unscathed by legalities. ̶

Clapton and Winwood Break Out Blind Faith, Hendrix at First Supergig It wasn’t billed as a Blind Faith reunion, but Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton kicked off their three-night stand at New York’s Madison Square Garden Monday night with “Had To Cry Today.” And through the course of their twenty-song set they’d cover the entire A-side of 1969’s Blind Faith — the only album by the supergroup — hitting “Can’t Find My Way Home,” “Well … All Right” and “Presence of the Lord.” (Full set list after the jump.) When Clapton and Winwood converged in London last week for rehearsals — with an all-star backing band consisting of bassist Willie Weeks, keyboardist Chris Stainton and drummer Ian Thomas — they decided to choose songs from each other’s catalogs to jam on. “There’s some perspective material that’s quite intricate and tricky and has got a lot of stuff going on,” Winwood told Rolling Stone before the gig. “And in some ways it’s best to head for simpler territory and then let the performance take over. Otherwise you spend all your time trying to remember bits and remember parts. So we’ve kind of erred a little bit on the simpler side. There’s a shed-load of material and we don’t have time to do all. We’ve honed it down and kept things that are better and more enjoyable to play.” At MSG they touched on Winwood’s stints in Traffic, busting out “No Face, No Name, No Number,” “Pearly Queen” and “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” on which Winwood laid down a nasty guitar solo. Clapton sang the blues on “Forever Man,” “After Midnight” and “Crossroads.” They also played three tracks by their mutual friend Jimi Hendrix: The fourth song of the night was “Changes,” from Band of Gypsys, and later in the set they offered the one-two punch of “Little Wing” and “Voodoo Child,” with Clapton offering blistering solos. In the middle of the set, Clapton appeared alone, singing “Ramblin’ On My Mind,” which he first recorded with John Mayall’s Blues Breakers in 1966. Following that, Winwood took the stage by himself, pumping

Timbaland Arrested In Germany? Prince Is Back On Columbia, And More Timbaland was busted by German cops over the weekend after a fight allegedly broke out between the legendary producer and a bar patron. The fracas took place in Cologne, Germany, where, after a Justin Timberlake concert, Timbaland and his posse allegedly attacked a man, Robert F, who called Timba the N word after he found the producer talking to his girlfriend. Timbaland went to jail; Robert F went to the hospital. The producer was released early Monday morning on bail. Items belonging to Lou Pearlman, the mastermind behind the late ’90s onslaught of boy bands, will be auctioned off today in Florida in an attempt to earn back money lost by more than 1,000 investors and a dozen or so banks when Pearlman disappeared in January. Who wants a photo of Lou Pearlman and Britney Spears? Rage Against the Machine will perform on August 24th at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. Queens of the Stone Age will open. Prince is back on Columbia Records. The label-hopping artist will put out his next album Planet Earth, on Columbia on July 24. Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos was honored last week when his lyrics were the subject of a lecture at a Berlin university. “In one of the main universities in Berlin yesterday, they had a lecture about my lyrics, which is funny,” the singer said. “It was called ‘The Depressive Dandy - the Lyrics of Eddie Argos.’In Germany, they think I’m an intellectual, which is ridiculous.”

Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily Nearly 125,000 people rushed out to buy Britney Spears’ pretty solid new album Blackout this Tuesday. Jesus was not one of them. Axl Rose returned to our stereos, and by extension, our hearts. But we also learned he’s not so fond of constructive criticism. Led Zeppelin is touring the world (says some baseless rumors)! Led Zeppelin is pushing back their reunion show due to a busted finger (says the band)! Some people chuckled when unsuspecting Ozzy Osbourne fans got snagged in a clever but cruel police dragnet. Ozzy was not laughing (about that or illegal downloaders). Several fall festivals came and went, and Rock Daily has the proof: Photo galleries from Vegoose, Voodoo and the Bridge School Benefit.

News Ticker: Slash, Fall Out Boy, John Mayer Slash may get his Dr. Pepper after all. Asked by the BBC whether the original Guns N’ Roses could ever reunite, the guitarist said it would take “a twist of fate.” “It’s a possibility, but there are so many big things that would have to change before it was even possible,” said Slash. “It’s not in the foreseeable future, as far as I’m concerned.” Bad weather finally forced Fall Out Boy to cancel their trip to Antarctica after a week of postponements. The band hoped to play the frozen continent in order to make the Guinness Book of World Records as the first act to play all seven continents. If being a rocker and commandeering cruise ships doesn’t work out, John Mayer can look forward to a job at ESPN. Listen to Mayer’s hilarious attempt at play-by-play during the Boston Red Sox/Oakland Athletics game in Tokyo. My Morning Jacket Set New Album Release Date, Kool Herc Tries to Save Hip-Hop’s Birthplace, Fergie Pregnant? and More My Morning Jacket have revealed they will release their new, still-untitled album on June 10th. The album will be the band’s first studio release since 2005’s Z. To mark the event, MMJ will bring their legendary live show to New York’s Radio City Music Hall on June 20th. According to rumors, Fergie may have a bun in the oven. The gossip started after Ferg’s new husband Josh Duhamel was given a pair of baby slippers as a present. “Everyone is saying she is pregnant,” sources tell the New York Daily News. Hip-hop founding father Kool Herc and NY Senator Chuck Schumer are teaming up to buy the projects where Herc first gave birth to the genre. With assistance from the New York Housing Dept., Herc wants to purchase the West Bronx apartment building so that it can remain affordable housing while preserving its place in rap history. When he’s not playing Guitar Hero, Slash plays an actual guitar. To reiterate that point Gibson Guitars are releasing eight Slash-branded guitars ranging from “cheap” to “high-end custom,” with each guitar brandishing Slash’s autograph. Gibson also plans a Jimmy Page line later in the year. An illegal gangsta rap station in Tampa, Florida, was busted and three “DJs” arrested after the pirate station failed to properly secure an FCC license. Given the violent and lyrically-explicit nature of their broadcasts, actual FCC clearance would have been unlikely.

Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily Van Halen’s reunion tour made its way to New York’s Madison Square Garden (and a few 2008 dates got announced). Rock Daily was there, and had an opinion on everything from David Lee Roth’s voice to the muddy sound. The White Stripes shared their latest secret: They’re collaborating with Beck. Foxy Brown may be in solitary confinement at Riker’s, but she’s evidently primed for a Mariah Carey-level comeback. Rock Daily got a first listen to her new album, Brooklyn’s Don Diva, to see what the fuss is about. Let the backlashing begin! As Radiohead’s In Rainbows nears its physical release date, Lily Allen, Oasis and Gene Simmons took pot shots at the band’s innovative release strategy. Rock Daily went a little video crazy: Our cameras were behind the scenes at Jay-Z’s cover shoot, capturing Dave Matthews finger-picking new song “Round and Round” and at parties getting dirty stories from Pete Wentz. Plus we brought you videos from our Ten Artists to Watch, long-lost footage from a Johnny Cash Christmas Special, David Gilmour playing “Wish You Were Here” live and Queen busting out “Tie Your Mother Down” from a 1981 gig.
