Cannibal Corpse Album: “Kill”
 Description :
One of the most infamous and censored death metal bands ever, Cannibal Corpse celebrates their 10th album with one titular sentiment: KILL. That's pretty much what it does, too. KILL reminds us who put the death in death metal, combining relentless and intense sounds with lyrics that couple Grand Guignol thrills with slasher-film imagery. Wiry, almost progressive time and tempo shifts choke out the intense riffage and bend it into dramatic extremes, as evidenced on "Five Nails in the Neck" and the assaultive introduction of "Brain Removal Police," exacting and technical in its delivery, much like the rest of the album. Designed almost solely to gross out those who dare read the blood-soaked lyric sheet, numbers like "Submerged in Boiling Flesh" and "Barbaric Bludgeonings" pretty much spell out their prurient intent in graphic detail. KILL certainly doesn't open any new doors in the lifespan (or deathspan, if you will) of Cannibal Corpse, but it doesn't close any either; those who listen should know exactly what they're getting, and will be satisfied that it delivers on all counts.

- Death Metal Not Dead!
Cannibal Corpse is back and as foul as ever. It's been a couple years since "The Wretched Spawn" but the wait was well worth it. Along with most records these days, "Kill" seems to get better and better the more you listen to it. From the opening track "The Time to Kill is Now" to the closer "Infinite Misery" there is nothing but non-stop speed and death that doesn't dissapoint. You are hard pressed to find a track on this album that isn't just plain nasty. Fast gutiars, earthy bass, machine gun drums and creature like vocals: recipe for mayhem. If you need to add a new death metal album to your collection..."Kill"!!!

- Face-ripping musical complexity and sophistication
I became a fan of Cannibal Corpse by their 2nd album, "Butchered at Birth," and have been following their releases ever since. This latest release finds them still at the top of their game. The bar has not been raised, but who has in recent years? This is an album that is very much a worthy addition to any Death Metal fan's collection. The band's razor sharp precision is in punishing display, with songs that go from one riff to the next, from one tempo change to the other without seemingly breaking a sweat. The loss of longtime guitarist Jack Owen doesn't seem to have had a bad impact on this band at all, as returning guitarist Rob Barrett ably fulfills his role. Compositionally, Jack's absence has meant that bassist extraordinaire Alex Webster is now the composer of almost half of the material, and even drummer Paul Mazurkiewic has a whole song to his credit (does he play guitar as well?).
The main difference between this album and the previous one is in the catchiness factor. While "The Wretched Spawn" featured a lot of simple, catchy riffs and vocal patterns that you easily remembered after just one listen, sprinkled amongst their brutally fast and complex passages, on "Kill" we don't hear a lot of those catchy riffs. The complexity and ferocity have once again taken center stage. I have listened to the album about 4 times, and just now I can start getting a feel for the different parts. Not so on their previous one. This time they have gone all out in their pursuit of aggression and complexity, leaving no doubt that they can still outplay, and out-think (compositionally) a lot of bands out there, while viciously ripping off your face with insane aggression.
In short, while not as instantly "accessible" as other efforts ("Spawn","The Bleeding"), "Kill" stands as another musically accomplished, delicously brutal offering that will surely satisfy fans of the genre, both old and new. Pop it into your player, and prepare yourself to be killed.
