Disco de Cold: “Different Kind of Pain”

I have been a long time fan of Cold. The newer more mellow Cold is definately the best sound they have produced yet. The third album "Year of the Spider" is not too far behind and that is for sure, but the old cold was not as emotional and vocally talented as the the new Cold. Cold has lost some talent intramentally, yet I don't see this as a bad thing. Scooter Ward is so talented vocally there is no need for instruments to attempt to drown him out. Give ward the stage! This fresh sound from cold is certainly implemented in the title track, as it is only ward and his beloved piano for the most part of the song. The intruments are there but there is certainly no need. The song writing ability of Ward can not be matched by anyone in the rock genre. This is a kind of parent-friendly grunge-flavored soft rock that 1-ups every kind of alternative rock out there which seems to be all screams and F-bombs nowadays. If you like rock this is the album for you. If it doesn't hit the spot the first time try round two and you will agree.

I don't know what all these other guys are talking about? I thought this was an awsome c.d. Whats wrong with Melody and fullness? The old Cold stuff was full of riffs and awsome guitars (only guitarist get off on all that) but even that gets old and can sound like the same song you just heard. Some people ANALize music way too much and take ALL the meaning out of it. I learned to respect Cold more with this c.d. because it shows it can have a whole differant level and approach to there music. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Thats never a wrong way to go. Scooters vocals is sooo powerful and melodic as always. He proves in this c.d. you don't have to scream or sing high to make you feel every word the way hes feeling them as he's writing them. Thats what happens when tragedy hits you close to your heart. I would highly recommend buying this c.d. if you like melodic and powerful rock!!!!

Cold is definately underrated in my opinion. Love all their albums and this is definately one of their best efforts. If you know Cold you should love this album if you dont know Cold take a shot, it will be worth it.

Coming off the successful release of "Year of the Spider" a few years back i was interested to see how Cold would approach their new album. In my opinion it is a a great cd all round and really reflects everything the band has been through because lets face it, its a wonder this band is even still together after all the crap they've been through it hasnt exactly been easy. Cold has really evolved to their benefit since their first self titled album.

Cold is back and ready to kick ass again. This album is a definent buy for any cold fan.

Just a couple years after Cold's amazing release of the popular "Year of the Spider", Cold is back with their fourth album "A Different Kind of Pain". After hearing the first single entitled "Happens all the time", you'll undeniably notice Cold's new approach to their work, and it only gets deeper with more of the album.

For those who enjoy Cold's first and self-titled album, or even "Year of the Spider", this may not be the Cold you were hoping they would evolve into. But for a more mature and a deeper band, this is where Cold has taken us with "A Different Kind of Pain". By far it's their most passionate peace of work since their first release.

Anyone who has been aware of Cold's history, or especially Scooter Ward, leader singer of the band, knows that it hasn't been easy for them, especially prior to the release of this album. The band has overcome many obstacles, and each song has a deeper meaning than the first listen will lead into. The more you listen to this album, you can almost feel Scooter Ward's pain as the music seepes into your eardrums. No doubt, Cold has felt the pain.

As for the album, I feel it's been done very well. It's not quite as hard as their previous work, but the passion is still there which Cold has always been very good about doing. Of course, this album won't appeal to all. But for those who don't mind a calmer Cold, "A Different Kind of Pain" is the place to turn.
