Just going to point out first that it does not come in a standard CD case.
Regardless, both CDs are amazing. I especially love the two Life in Technicolor tracks (first tracks on each disc.)
Before purchasing this album, I had doubts whether the tracks were worth listening to and after hearing first-hand how bad X&Y was, I was justified in having second thoughts about buying it. After hearing that the album had dropped down to $5 for a limited time, I decided to buy it and experience it first-hand. What I experienced was an almost perfect album. I have to admit that it does stray from their earlier albums like "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" but not being a hardcore Coldplay listener, I welcomed the change. Songs like "Lost!", "42", "Lovers in Japan" to name a few showcase Coldplay's new and welcomed direction where they expirement with various styles. Not to mention all the songs are extremely catchy and they will be stuck in your head for days. Here are some of my comments on the songs:
Life in Technicolor - 4/5; Short but sweet
Cemeteries of London - 4/5
Lost! - 5/5; Catchy
42 - 5/5
Lovers in Japan - 5/5; One of my favorites, awesome lyrics
Yes - 5/5; Also my favorite, features Martin singing looow, middle eastern section
Viva La Vida - 5/5; Amazing of course
Violet Hill - 4/5; Love the guitar solo
Strawberry Swing - 2/5; Okay, could have been left out
Death And All His Friends - 5/5; Great ending to a great album
Disc 2 is also awesome. I don't have time to comment on each song but make sure you buy the Prospekt's March edition! Why some of them were left out of Disc 1 is suprising really.
In summary, buy the album for you and 10 of your friends. It's that good.
It's Cd of the year for a reason...it's darn catchy and well done. U2 called by the way, they want their record back! Hahahahaaa!!! OK, kidding. Disc 2 is worth a listen, but the meat and potatoes is on disc #1. The downfall is the rapping over "Lost" on CD #2 as others have mentioned.....sorry! No good! They ruined this track. Don't try to be all things to all people. Coldplay is not ghetto. It's the only track you must skip over completely because its a great song that was destroyed by urbanizing it. Other than that, please do buy it!
Already a fan of Coldplay and IMHO, this is definitely their best album to-date and is certainly one of the best 100 albums of all time! Almost every song is nothing less than fantastic. Seriously, you must own this album! Check it out online, from a friend, borrow it from your local library or one of the many other free ways available first, but trust me, you simply can't go wrong with this one. Buy it!
This one has been stuck in my changer since I bought it...love it that much.
