Animal Collective’s “Merriweather Post Pavilion” Streaming Now On RhapsodyPhoto: Gries/Getty Animal Collective’s weirdly breathtaking Merriweather Post Pavilion is quickly becoming one of 2009’s most acclaimed albums. Now, five days before the CD hits stores, you can stream the Baltimore/Brooklyn band’s ninth album in its entirety over at Rhapsody. Yes, we know the album is already out on vinyl and has been distributed illegally over the Internet, but if you don’t have a record player and like listening to music without a guilty conscience, this stream of MPP is the way to go. Enjoy the psychedelic sounds of the Beach Boys-inspired “Brother Sport” and “Guys Eyes,” described in our three-and-a-half star album review as “a cauldron of the Pet Sounds vocal fractals.” Our review says “Lion in a Coma” and “No More Runnin’” “get lost in their own weirdness” but here’s a second opinion: we think those songs are the highlight of Merriweather. Agree or disagree? Does Animal Collective warrant all the hype surrounding this release? Check out Rhapsody’s exclusive Merriweather Post Pavilion album stream and leave your review in the comments. “Cho Show”’s Margaret Cho: Broken Social Scene’s Newest Member?Photo:VH1 A new leg of Margaret Cho’s “Beautiful” tour kicks off September 12th in Saratoga, California, but she may be onstage with a bunch of Canadians before then: “Broken Social Scene is the best thing happening in modern music. Kevin Drew is a genius and I am so excited about joining them onstage,” she tells Rolling Stone (the collaboration hasn’t happened just yet, but is in the works). “I told him I wanted to just sneak my way into the band, like walking backwards onstage while playing the triangle. This is total proof that The Secret works because every time I would listen to their music, I would say to myself, ‘I wanna be be in this band. I must be in this band. I am gonna be in this band.’ And then it happened!” This season on VH1’s new The Cho Show the comic attempts to break into the music industry on her own. “I recorded a song with legendary producer Desmond Child, and it was really hard. Being a pop diva is much more difficult than I thought. You have to like sing and shit,” she says. “Desmond was a great teacher, and he showed me that I really do have a good singing voice, but it was much more work than I anticipated. I am working on an album right now of all comedy songs so i would say I am modeling myself after Weird Al Yankovic more than Britney.” So what else is on Cho’s playlist? “Tom Petty’s ‘Here Comes My Girl’ is just the ultimate love song — the best girlfriend tribute ever,” she says, counting the Kills’ “Last Day of Magic,” the Raconteurs’ “Five on the Five,” the Killers‘ “Under the Gun” and Girl in a Coma’s “Both Before I’m Gone” songs she “can’t get enough of.” And then there’s Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville, which she says “saved my life and was just reissued to save more lives.” Related Stories: • Broken Social Scene at Lollapalooza • Review: Broken Social Scene, You Forgot It In People

Deftones: Chi UpdateDeftones have released a new statement regarding their upcoming US appearances in April along with an update on bassist Chi Cheng, who has been in a coma since his accident in November. “Our fallen comrade has not made significant progress as of yet, but continues to fight on from his accident," says the band. “Chi always wanted to keep working and never slow down, which is why we feel confident in returning to the stage in April. Chi would want it, and we want to make sure we’re keeping his legacy alive. Sergio Vega, a close friend of the band and who had briefly took over from Cheng back in 1999, will be stepping in to help once again whilst he is recovering in hospital." Cheep checking Kerrang.com for updates as we hear them.

How to Lose the Thanksgiving 15 – Without Star Jones' Laparoscopic Band Sure, CollegeHumor.com co-founder and porn name recipient Ricky Van Veen may be bathing in C-notes ever since Barry Diller's checkbook showed up, but that doesn't mean he's idling away like some Web 2.0 millionaires (who we're quite envious of). Rather, he's brewing up genius workout ideas while coming out of his tryptophan coma. Like many of you, I was always the type of person who would buy a gym membership but rarely go. Not that I abhorred spending time at the gym, but there was no compelli

'American Idol' Finally Overcomes Its Pink Panic [Taste The Rainbow]newVideoPlayer("mashidol_defamer.flv", 463, 387,"");At long last, the American Idol chaff has been removed (farewell, STG. Farewell, fan-waving hippie. Farewell, toe-tapping girl--or, rather, hello to Defamer's newest celebrity commenter), and we can focus on the unpolished kernels of wheat vying for karaoke's ultimate crown. Only watching the top 12 boys compete last night, we were instantly struck by something: These are some of the gayest wheat-kernels we've ever laid our eyes on! In years past, producers tried to at least go through the paces of dressing the feyer contestants up as a viable tweenbait, hoping a fedora and loose-hanging necktie would throw their gleefully incurious target audience off of the potent lavender scent. No longer, however. Between Colton "Lesbiman" Berry and Danny "The Singing Christian" Noriega, it seemed as though you couldn't manage to escape someone or thing representin' the G-A-Y on the Idol set: A wall of flames! Ryan Seacrest! That single father who sang "Moon River" and reminded us of that other band! In case you missed the signs--and if you did, we hope you're in coma--Defamer video vixen Molly McAleer has compiled some of the gaylights in one handy montage. Enjoy. americanidol.com
