I've only been listening to this Album for a couple of months now, so it's still pretty fresh to me. Even though I've overkilled this album by listening to it over and over again after finding myself in a drought for new good music. I still am not even slightly bored of it, and that's saying a lot believe me!
I was supremely impressed by this LIVE Album the first time I heard it.
Some of the songs are actually better... MUCH better live! Standouts include "Leviathan" which I think achieves its full potential in the live show and outdoes the original with a sharper sound with clearer vocals and "The Men" which after becoming one of my favorite songs from their newest release has now completely blown me away with an extended live mix which is a MUST LISTEN. This was especially nice as my only vice with the original mix was its short duration. "Dead Stars" also does an incredible job live with the extended club mix and you can really feel the energy of the crowd behind this one.
The overall album favors the 2 newest albums, with 5 of the 12 songs coming from the newest release. Although this is pretty well expected with a recording coming off a tour for their newest studio album.
The only downsides I would say is like any live show you always get at least a couple songs that you felt could have been replaced by better songs. I'm not the biggest fan of "Pulse" or "Go Film" so either of them could have been dropped out for better songs in my opinion. Plus only 1 song made it from the USOM album (Dead Stars) Although one of the best songs from the album at least 1 more would have been great... maybe AfterHours? I love that song!
12 Songs is ok for a live show, I'm not really sure if they cut out more content from their live shows, I would have expected maybe 14-15 full songs in their set list, but I guess the extended live songs are the reason for only 12 full songs on the album, minus the filler first track.
Regardless of any complaints I might have, this album is a superior work and stands among some of the best live albums I've ever heard, and is easily one of my top 3 albums for 2008! Maybe even my favorite, although being a Covenant fan who's missed every chance to see them live this is the best I can hope for... next to the DVD which I have yet to see... but soon.
