Cradle of Filth

Cradle of Filth Album: “Nymphetamine [PA]”

Cradle of Filth Album: “Nymphetamine [PA]”
Description :
Cradle Of Filth: Dani Filth (vocals); Paul Allender, James McIlroy (guitar); Martin Foul (piano); Herr Pubis (bass guitar); Adrian Erlandsson (drums).
Recording information: 2004.
NYMPHETAMINE (according to the band, a term defined as a ravenous addiction to classically beautiful women) is Cradle of Filth's sixth full-length album, and third in a row on a new label (in this case, Roadrunner Records). It's also stripped of the grandeur provided by a full orchestra and choir on 2003's DAMNATION AND A DAY. Time spent on the road with 2003's Ozzfest left the band with a need to simplify the arrangements, in an effort to capture the ferocity of their legendary live shows. What's left is heavily thrash-influenced and teeming with fluid guitar lines rooted in the classic British metal of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
Relying less on synths, strings, and operatic background vocals, Cradle of Filth turns up the guitars a notch and delivers wave after wave of brutal yet melodic riffs anchored in the band's early influences. Guitarists Paul Allender and James McIlroy twist lines into dark harmonies on "Nemesis" and "Coffin Fodder," while delicate piano intros add atmosphere to "English Fire" and "Absinthe with Faust." The title track features a duet with Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tragedy, Leaves Eyes) that epitomizes the idea of beauty and the beast. NYMPHETAMINE proves that less can indeed mean more.

- They did it again

As always Cradle of Filth puts out another perfectly produced album. Although I do have to say that Damnation In A Day is still number one to me. However the tittle track did get them a Grammy nod. In my oppinion this is what well written music deserves. As always, the album of the year seems to always go to some half-witt hip-hop or pop performer that couldn't compose, much less speak a proper english sentence if their life depended on it.

- I hate Black Metal Fans

I hate the following:

1. People who make a list of true Black Metal Bands

2. People who say stuff like COF ruined Black Metal

3. People who want all metal bands that are popluar to never utter the word Black Metal

4. People who want bands to continue to make the same formula of music for eternity and never progress

5. People who make references to old EP's that came out 10 years ago

6. People who make rules for what they think Black Metal is supposed to be, do, or become

7. People who bash COF for making money doing what they love

8. People who take the opportunity of reveiwing a CD and use it to (...)about who is real Black Metal or who the posers are

9. People who have no interest in COF writing usless reviews here on Amazon

10. Any one who wastes my time by writing about how bad Dani Filth's vocals are. You are a idiot to state that. You should not be reveiwing a COF CD if you hate them due to the vocals

11. Religous people who try to get their point across by bashing metal bands on the Amazon review pages

If you like COF you will most likley enjoy this CD.

- Headbangers dessert.

whoa! I just got this album and the moment I put it in adrenaline rushed through my skull and went madly insane! I headbanged like crazy till I found my head on the floor rocking and body still moshing! Nymphetamine is Cradle's freshest and most rocking! I think they just created a metal masterpiece! pick it up and play it in your church!

- IN SHOCK

I never thought I'd say it but, I think this is they're best album since Dusk and Her Embrace. Having said that...there is a lot of recycled riffing on this album. It's almost like they took they're best songs and streamlined them.

Guitar riff's (YES their are actual leads and guitar harmonies used on this album...no more of Damnation's guitar sludge!) used in title track "Nymphetamine" sound oddly like Dusk's "A Gothic Romance" mixed with "Malice through the Looking Glass."

"Coffin Fodder" features a riff that sounds like a riff from V Empire's "Queen of Winter, Throned." It also sounds similar to riffs used in A7x's "Unholy Confession's" as well as Bleeding Through's "Love Lost In A Hail Of Gunfire" (both of which ripped off QOWT).

If you're familiar with the band you will find yourself noticing the same thing throughout the majority of the album.

Not to mention the fact that "Swansong for a Raven" and "Mother of Abominations" are in fact direct sequels to 2 songs off of 2000's Midian.

Despite all the "sequel feeling" of this album I can't help but like it.

If you're into that sort of thing you'll love this album, too. However, if you stopped listening to COF after '98 this album won't win you back.

side notes:

- Dani's vocals are much less shrieky on this album. Similiar to Damnation's, but ,outside of a little digital delay, much less "produced."

- Sarah is *almost* no where to be found on this album.

- No orchestra was used on this album, and the keyboards are hardly evident on a few tracks. However some are drenched.

- WTF?!?!?!?

I don't know wtf the problem is! As far as I see\hear it COF are an awesome f'n band. I have been listening to metal for 23 years, and this is one of the best albums I have ever heard. All of those who say that this band either sucks or that this album is horrible have no taste!
