- "Just a basic energy"--Man Shake

This CD is an interesting set of songs for Culture Club fans who did not collect all the B-sides and 12" singles. Some of the remixes are excellent, especially "It's A Miracle/Miss Me Blind" and "I'll Tumble 4 Ya." Captain Crucial appears on the "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" 12". The B-sides are also quality material. "Colour By Numbers" is rather drab yet pleasant at times, but "From Luxury to Heartache" is excellent (better than some of the tracks that made the album by the same name) and backup singer Helen Terry kicks big time fanny on "Man Shake." "Love is Love," which was released on the Electric Dreams soundtrack, is wonderful and if you have never heard the instrumental version of "Time," you need to buy this CD right away. That track alone makes this collection worth your time. It is absolutely beautiful. The only track that is a waste here is "Black Money." It is just the version off Colour By Numbers which most people already have. I would rather see "The Crying Game" on here to complement the 12" Boy George solo "Everything I Own." Unfortunately, this collection was put together a couple years before the soundtrack. Still, unless you already have all these tracks on their original records, this CD is a must for any Culture Club fan. The CD booklet also includes interesting notes on each of the tracks. Note: I notice some of these B-sides are being released on the remastered CDs of the albums so, if you plan on buying them, you may want to hold off on this CD until you know if all these tracks are included on the remasters.

- More than one release and a variation!

Two compilations are identical (with the exception of title and artwork):

12" Mixes Plus - Collect - EMI/Virgin (1991/2002)

Remix Collection - EMI Gold Imports (2006)

1. Move Away (12' Mix) 7:28

The extended mix of their "comeback" single which reached No.7 in

the spring of 1988.

2. It's A Miracle-Miss Me Blind (US 12' Mix) 9:10

A wonderful segue of two of the best songs from "Color by Numbers".

This version also available on: "This Time: First Four Years" EMI Europe (1993)

3. God Thank You Woman (Extended Version) 7:04

The band's last single, issued in unhappy times (May `86)

A great track, even better remixed.

4. I'll Tumble 4 Ya (US 12' Remix) 4:38

CC's 3rd American Top 10 hit, this remix appeared on the `B' side of

the "Karma Chameleon" 12 inch in the U.K.

This version also available on:

"This Time: First Four Years" EMI Europe (1993)

5. Love Is Cold (You Were Never No Good) 4:22

`B' side of "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me".

6. Do You Really Want To Hurt Me (Dub Version) 3:38

The 12"dubbed version. Captain Crucial rappin'!

7. Everything I Own (Boy George) (Extended P W Botha Mix) 7:13

Boy George's first solo single - climbed to No. 1 in only 2 weeks.

Extended 12" Version.

8. Color By Numbers 3:57

The title track of the album of the same name, BUT

this song wasn't even on that album!!

`B' Side of Victims"

9. From Luxury To Heartache (12' Version) 4:23

The title track of the album of the same name.

This song wasn't on that album, either!!

`B' Side of God Thank You Woman"

10. Time (Clock Of The Heart) (Instrumental Mix) 3:45

A really nice instrumental remix from the 12" single.

11. Black Money 5:19

Tragically pulled just prior to release,

this track would have been a big hit.

12. Love Is Love 3:51

From the "Electric Dreams" soundtrack.

VERY popular in Japan.

13. Man-Shake 2:35

Helen Terry (of Black Money fame)

rejoins the band with some kickin' vocals.

14. The War Song (Ultimate Dance Mix) 6:18

The best mix of this song I have ever heard!

All tracks on these compilations are unique due to the mixing on this release.

They jacked-up the percussion a bit, possibly also bass guitar.

The sound is really great and only enhances the tracks.

Also be aware of this similar compilation:

"12" Collection Plus" by Caroline Records

1. Move Away

2. It's a Miracle/Miss Me Blind Medley [US 12" Mix]

3. God Thank You Woman [Extended Version]

4. I'll Tumble 4 Ya

5. Love Is Cold (You Were Never So Good)

6. Do You Really Want to Hurt Me

7. Everything I Own [Extended P.W. Botha Mix]

8. Color by Numbers

9. From Luxury to Heartache [Extended Mix]

10. Love Is Love

11. Murder Rap Trap

12. Man Shake

13. Mystery Boy (Suntori Hot Whiskey Song)

14. The War Song [Ultimate Dance Mix]

15. Gusto Blusto [Rock Mix]

12" Collection Plus has the above additional Gusto Blusto [Rock Mix] Track 15,

but drops the "Time (Clock of the Heart)" Instrumental, and "Black Money",

replacing them with "Murder Rap Trap" (Available on the "Culture Club" 4CD box set) and "Mystery Boy" (Available on the "Colour by Numbers" remaster as a bonus track).

It seems this is the only CD to contain "Gusto Blusto" in this mix.

Gusto Blusto (Single Version) is available on the "From Luxury to Heartache" album,

available at Amazon UK.

If you already own "12" Mixes Plus - Collect" or "Remix Collection",

you may not want 12" Collection Plus, unless you want the 3 tracks differing from the albums reviewed here. Note the similarity of the titles.

- The best of the mixes...

I own several of the "music-released-beyond-the-albums" material on CD and on vinyl, and I have to say this is one of the best. As a Culture Club fan of 20-plus years, I find myself still listening to this CD in my car and I never grow tired of it. There have been quite a bit of "re-released" compilations, and some are just down right annoying, but this is something with a great groove (they MUST have pumped the bass and drums on some of these tracks since the originals). This CD does not just include Culture Club's top 40 stuff, but gives a true overview of what the entire band (not just George solo, although I like his stuff too) is really capable of--GOOD MUSIC.

- There are two variations of this collection

Well I have one of the variations and I like long versions of them hit tracks (which are many) so the shorter ones are.. ok

no one can have ever missed "Miss Me Blind" ,"Karma Chameleon" & "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" the classic mixes.

All those new versions my apply to the dance floors but to have the real nostalgic sound I prefer the original album & 12" mixes.

Call me oldfashioned but remixes can be good & bad depending who speaks their mind. Giving it 3 is minus for the missing track listinigs on this one & lack of any information at all. Makes hard choice for customers to buy it ;).

---- Still I cannot see the tracklist on this one !? ----
