Death Cab for Cutie concerts 2025

Having just released their excellent latest studio album “Kintsugi” and already announced on the instant sell-out 2015 edition of Splendour in the Grass – Washington indie legends Death Cab for Cutie are excited to announce a full run of Australian headline shows including shows in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Wollongong, Canberra and a signature headline performance at the Sydney Opera House.

The last Australian tour was in 2012 when they toured the Grammy nominated “Codes & Keys” album and so with eight outstanding albums under their belts and “Kintsugi” proving they are in some of the finest form of their career both live and on record this 2015 tour is both very exciting and long overdue for Australian fans.

This tour will see the band play with the five piece live line-up that has had reviewers overseas raving and features the core membership of singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr augmented by new touring members Dave Depper (Menomena, Fruit Bats, Corin Tucker, Ray LaMontagne) and Zac Rae (My Brightest Diamond, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey, Gnarls Barkley), both of whom contribute additional guitars and keyboards.

After nearly two decades together Death Cab for Cutie are consistently hailed as one of contemporary music’s most compelling, creative, genre defining and era defining collectives and we are very, very pleased to see them back in Australia for these shows.

A decade on from their classic major label breakthrough Plans, Death Cab For Cutie return rejuvenated with their eighth album Kintsugi – weaving Ben Gibbard's intimate narratives with Codes & Keys echoing heights for a career-spanning Opera House debut.

Death Cab for Cutie er gået fra at være et mindre deltidsprojekt til at være Grammy-nomineret for tre albums og en EP. Grundlæggeren er den dybt respekterede sangskriver Ben Gibbard, der tilbage i 1997 startede sin karriere med at udsende sine demoindspilninger på et kassettebånd. De efterfølgende år udgav han med Death Cab For Cutie fire studiealbums, der vakte stor opsigt i indie-verdenen. Samtidig med bandets voksende succes udgav Gibbard og den elektroniske musiker Dntel, det banebrydende og millionsælgende album ”Give Up” i 2003 under navnet The Postal Service.

Da Death Cab For Cutie i 2005 udgav deres femte album ”Plans”, der bl.a. inkluderer den akustiske ballade ”I Will Follow You into the Dark”, opnåede de platin-certificering i USA og lå desuden på Billboards albumhitliste i næsten et helt år. Både ”Plans” (2005), “Narrow Stairs” (2008), “The Open Door” EP (2009) og “Codes and Keys” (2011) er alle blevet Grammy-nomineret i kategorien ”Best Alternative Music Album”, hvilket understreger bandets store betydning på indie-scenen.

Bandet er aktuelt med deres 8. studiealbum ”Kintsugi”, der både har toppet Billboards US Top Rock og US Top Alternative. Albummet debuterede som #8 på Billboard-listen og har fået rosende ord med på vejen. Det er desværre sidste album med guitaristen Chris Walla, men som Gaffa skriver i en femstjernet anmeldelse: ”Stærk i modgang og topform trods (op)brud”.

Kintsugi marque le premier album de Death Cab For Cutie depuis le départ de Chris Walla, guitariste et fondateur du groupe. Enregistré à Los Angeles avec Rich Costey (Muse, Interpol) aux commandes, l’album tient son nom de l’art japonais qui consiste à réparer la céramique avec des métaux précieux comme l’or, l’argent et le platine, tout en mettant en valeur les fissures, plutôt que de les cacher. De ce fait, Kintsugi représente une philosophie selon laquelle les dommages et l’usure font partis de la vie d’un objet mais ne marquent pas la fin de celle-ci.
