- One of my favorite bands

This cool album includes the 80's classic 'Whip It', as well as many other of the band's new wave hits. This is a classic new wave band with many classic hits on it, at a great bargain price.

- Devo with More than Just WHIP IT!

This is a compliation album that is for sure. Each time a producer comes across and does one of these albums I always wonder what hits they've left out. But in this case it kind of like let's see what you get!

First there is the hit single "Whip It" which if you've never heard it before will instantly become obvious why it was there most popular song and the one associated with the band. Next there is a "Beautiful World" which if I recall correctly was used in some advertising campaign as it sounds so familiar. The same could be said of the song "Uncontrollable Urge" with it's "Ya ya ya ya....Yah!" Gates of Steel has it's moments. Another popular song by the group is "Freedom of Choice." "Freedom of Choice" has a great tune and lyric lines to it. Peek-A-Boo might get you a bit paranoid if you aren't careful. Watch out for the phony forced laughter! A great CD which I would recommend to anyone new to the group.

My only concern which was disspelled was the fact that the engineering of the tracks might be mismatched. But this was of no worry as the music sounds like it was recorded at a consistent high level throughout. I give it five stars. Recommended.

- Cheap compilation cashing in on the success of one song

This is one of those 'greatist hits' by musicians considered to be one hit wonders, that one hit of course being the almighty 'Whip It', which is probably one of the most, if not THE most, notorious alternative hits from the 80's. The rest of the comp, while consisting of some great material, is a short affair of tracks seemingly tacked on without care after 'Whip It', but that's pretty obvious since the song's title is used in the title of the compilation, which is a pretty tacky ploy in itself.

Basically, if you like the song Whip It and might consider getting into this truly awesome band, try going for their 'Greatist Hits' instead as a warm-up, which'll give you a much clearer view of the band's overall psyche and style, because if you do find you enjoy these 10 tracks you'll kick yourself for getting such a whimpy compilation.
