Review - :
While {$Dinosaur Jr.} was one of the biggest "cult {\rock}" bands to emerge in the United States during the late '80s/early '90s, they were always better known in England. As a result, {$J Mascis} and Co. laid down a few sessions for the {@BBC}, which is what the ten-track compilation {^In Session} focuses on. Spanning the years 1988 through 1992, this 1998 set features {$Dinosaur}'s definitive lineup: singer/guitarist {$Mascis}, bassist {$Lou Barlow}, and drummer {$Murph}. And while their studio albums were always raw and live sounding, most of these performances manage to sound even more raucous (despite being taped in a studio as well). Like his hero {$Neil Young}, {$Mascis} enjoys playing "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" -- garage rocker and mellow folkie -- which is represented here by the tracks {&"In a Jar"} and {&"Keeblin,"} respectively. The track list however does not include most of their best known songs from this era ({&"Freak Scene,"} {&"Show Me the Way,"} etc.). As a result, {^In Session} will probably only be of interest to hardcore fans. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
