Evanescence Running Out Of Musicians, Brandon Flowers Faces Fatherhood, And More Who IS in Evanescence anymore? According to reports, the band’s guitarist John LeCompt has been fired and drummer Rocky Gray has quit. “I’m done, and I’m pretty upset about it,” LeCompt said. “Amy Lee called and fired me today [Friday]. There’s absolutely no loyalty in this band.” Congratulations Brandon! Apparently Flowers and and his wife Tana, a teacher back in Las Vegas, are expecting their first child together, a boy. Remember those rumors that Sacha Baron Cohen was set to play Freddie Mercury? Yeah, they’re not true. Akon’s dirty dancing ways have caught up with him and tour mate Gwen Stefani. Verizon is pulling Akon from their ads and has decided to pull their sponsorship of the Akon/Stefani tour as a result of a recent incident in which the rapper was caught getting down in a nasty (and some would say rape-simulating) way with the 14-year-old daugher ofa Trinidadian minister. Last week we reported that Courtney Love was planning to auction off lots of Kurt’s old stuff. Now, apparently, she may change her mind. If you were all worked up over the rumor that Jay-Z was in a plane crash over the weekend, relax. Hova is fine.

Rilo Kiley, Lupe Fiasco, The Academy Is … Help MTV’s Woodies Avoid Pitfalls of VMAs Nearly everyone agrees MTV’s Video Music Awards are a lost cause when it comes to offering up what its viewers actually want (live performances! cool presenters!) as opposed to what they unfortunately get (clips of live songs! footage playing up the glitz and glamor of the event! people partying who are not you!). But the VMAs’ little brother, the mtvU Woodies, are thankfully far more in touch with its college-age audience. Last night the fourth-annual show taped at New York’s Roseland Ballroom, and the lineup was packed with fan-voted nominees and performers who’ve carved out their own niches in hip-hop and rock, like Spank Rock. The Academy Is… and Tokyo Police Club. Lupe Fiasco and Rilo Kiley filled in for original headliner Amy Winehouse, who may well have been the Woodie’s Britney in Vegas had she not bailed last week due to visa troubles. (To check out photos of Fall Out Boy, Rilo Kiley and the rest of the Woodies lineup, plus red-carpet interviews, click here.) Highlights ranged from Lupe Fiasco’s opening performance of “Superstar” with guest vocals from Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump (in the house with his band to present Best Video Woodie) to onetime RS Artist to Watch The Academy Is… performing their breakthrough power ballad “Everything We Had” with a string section of Julliard students adding tear-jerking accompaniment. The performance-heavy lineup allowed most acts to play two full songs, as though mtvU was offering a mea culpa for the VMAs’ hotel-suite snippets. Peter (of Peter, Bjorn and John) was spotted headbanging along with members of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus during “We’ve Got a Big Mess on Our Hands,” The Academy’s guitar-heavy rocker of a second song. Also seen: Spank Rock — who performed “Loose” and “Rick Rubin” with Santogold and half-dozen girls in glow-in-the-dark bikinis — dancing dirty with one of the girls in t

Beyonce Show Canceled Over Dress Code, Radiohead Hoax Revealed, Oasis Squashes Beef With Blur After Gwen Stefani was forced to tone down her performance in Malaysia because of the country’s strict dress code, Beyoncé’s Kuala Lumpur debut was canceled thanks to protests from Malaysia’s Muslim groups. Beyoncé also reportedly refused to conform to the code, which doesn’t allow female performers to show any skin from the top of the chest down to the knees, and thus impeding on her ability to be “Bootylicious.” A countdown is ticking on a recently unearthed site called RadioheadLP7.com, but according to sources inside Camp Radiohead, the only thing that will be revealed when the clock strikes zeros is that the site is a hoax. We smelled “fake” from the onset, given the revert back to Kid A-era font, but that hasn’t stopped us from tricking our friends with personalized messages on the LP7 page. Before there was Kanye vs. 50, there was Oasis vs. Blur. But now, Liam Gallagher tells Mojo that he has put an end to the decade-old feud, officially white-flagging a war of bad words that began in 1995, when both bands released singles in the same week, and should have ended in 1996 when people stopped caring about the feud. Cat Power will release her second album of covers, curiously titled Covers II, on January 22nd. The full track list hasn’t been announced (click here for a short list, though), and Chan Marshall will once again be backed by her Dirty Delta Blues band. Reports that Michael Jackson married his children’s nanny at a shotgun wedding in Las Vegas are completely “not true,” according to Jacko’s spokesperson. [Photo: ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images]

This Is the End: A 60-Second Tour of Rock Star Death Sites Ol’ Dirty Bastard (36 Records, New York) On November 13th, 2004, Russell Tyrone Jones, a.k.a. Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Big Baby Jesus, Dirt McGirt, collapsed and died at this recording studio. The 35 year old rapper was fresh out of prison and was working on a comeback album at the time. He had been complaining about chest pains for days, but had refused to go to a doctor. An autopsy revealed a lethal mix of painkillers and cocaine in his system (a small plastic bag full of cocaine was found in his stomach). John Entwistle (Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas) Who bassist John Entwistle died like a true rock star: high on coke and in bed with a stripper in Las Vegas. The Who were one day away from kicking off their 2002 tour at the Hard Rock Hotel at the time, and Entwistle came to town early to appear at a local art gallery that was displaying his paintings. He met up with local stripper Alison Rowse at the bar and they quickly retreated to his room. A few weeks later she blabbed to a UK tabloid that after they had sex she had trouble falling asleep because of his loud snoring - but she was greatly relieved when it finally stopped. When she woke up he was cold. Sid Vicious (63 Bank Street, New York) On February 1st, Vicious was released from jail after making bond on charges that he murdered his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. Deeply depressed, he went to his new girlfriend’s apartment at 63 Bank Street. She threw a party for him and Sid spent the night shooting up heroin; he got into bed that night and never woke up. His ashes were sprinkled over Nancy’s grave, in Philadelphia, much to the horror of Nancy’s parents, who blamed him for the murder of their daughter. Bob Marley (Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Miami) In 1980 Bob Marley was flying to Jamaica from a cancer clinic in Germany when the plane landed in Miami because Marley was gravely ill. Three years earlier doctors discovered a malignant melanoma on his right big toe, but he refused to have it amputated due to his Ra

Female Solo Brit Sensations, or the Most Confusing Distinction EverThe news that Amy Winehouse has become the highest debuting British female artist in the history of U.S. charts has left us scratching our heads. Huh? What about Dido, Joss Stone, Corrine Bailey Rae, Lily Allen, Fergie — oh wait, she’s not British, she just sings about her London Bridge going down as a metaphor for . . . something. Perhaps we have failed to look at the fine print. Seriously, ain’t no way Amy Winehouse beat out the fucking Spice Girls. Ms. Rehab might in fact be the highest-debuting- female-solo-British- tall-Jewish-black-haired -tattoed-with-a-birthmark -on-her-left-arm artist ever to make the U.S. Billboard charts. But of that more historic superlative, we’re not so sure. Let’s investigate, shall we? All of the aforementioned female imports have scored Top Ten spots on U.S. charts, but none have had their first album released in the States debut in the Top Ten. Dido’s Life for Rent debuted in the Top Five, but that wasn’t her first album (that one debuted at Number 144). Joss Stone’s first disc, The Soul Sessions, debuted at Number 199; Lily Allen’s Alright, Still at Number Twenty; Corrine Bailey Rae came closest when her self-titled album debuted at Number Seventeen. The most recent British act to debut in the Top Ten was Dirty Vegas (remember them??) who scored a Number Seven slot in 2002. Then there was the Spice Girls, who hit Number Six with Spice World in 1997. But neither is a solo artist and we’re pretty sure that members of Dirty Vegas don’t qualify for the female category despite the ambiguous sexual orientation of their fan base. Nonetheless, Winehouse’s unexpected surge to the top, beating out all preceding fellow female Brits, is mind-boggling. Dear readers, do you know who held the title of best selling debut in the British female solo artist category previously? We’re dying over here.
