Disco de Dishwalla: “Pet Your Friends”
 Descripción (en inglés) :
Dishwalla: J.R. Richards (vocals, Hammond organ, piano, synthesizer); Rodney Browning (guitar, vocals); Scot Alexander (bass, tabla, bells, synthesizer, vocals); George Pendergast (drums, percussion, vocals).
<p>Additional personnel: Andy Kravitz (programming).
<p>Recorded at Studio 4, Conshohocken, Pennsylvania and Skip Saylor Recording, Hollywood, California.
<p>Dishwalla's debut album features alternative pop-rock with a hint of soul, and it's distinguished by powerful melodies and edgy guitars. "Explode" is a nice dichotomy of '80s pop and rough guitar noise, creating a tension characteristic of Dishwalla's music. The band often uses contrasting musical styles in the same song to keep things interesting.
<p>"Counting Blue Cars" catches the listener's attention with the line, "Tell me all your thoughts on God/I'd really like to meet her," addressing religion from an appealingly innocent perspective. Kitschy, pop-culture references lend a retro appeal to both "Charlie Brown's Parents," which is about communication problems (remember the unintelligible adult voices from "Peanuts" movies?), and "Miss Emma Peel," a tribute to the character from television's "Avengers."

- longest time it's ever taken me to like a cd
i absolutely loved counting blue cars when i heard it on the radio years ago. it was my favorite song ever for a while. so i finally got the cd. and i was disappointed. i have an open mind for music, and i listen to a cd at least 20 times until i have the total feel of it and can make a judgement. the only other song i liked (besides counting blue cars) was charlie brown's parents (which i now think is the best song on the album). but i eventually started to love miss emma peel, too. but those were the only 3 songs i liked. i tried my hardest to like the rest of the album, but i could only sorta like the song give. so i gave up on the cd.
a few years later, just a few days ago, i decided to give the cd another try. and i liked haze, only for so long, and feeder's great. so i love most of the cd, and the rest of the cd ain't so bad. i'm no longer disappointed. it took years, though. this is the longest cd it's ever taken me to appreciate. it also took me over a year to like matchbox twenty's "mad season" and bush's "the science of things", which are both great.
pretty babies - 3/5 ok song.
i would have loved to give this cd a 5/5 cuz of all of the great songs, and i think dishwalla is one of the best sounding bands when the songs are good. but with the few songs that i don't like much, i think it's only fair to give it a 4/5. i would have given it a 4.5/5 if it was an option.

- Awesome!
I bought this CD years ago for their "hit", Counting Blue Cars. While a wonderful song, this is far from their best. The rest of the album absolutely rocks, with the tunes growing on you the more you listen to 'em. Complex and elaborate, yet extremely accessible. A MUST-HAVE CD FOR ANYONE'S COLLECTION. You will not be disappointed!

- Very close to perfect....
Alright, so the lyrics are a little strange. That is part of the overall charm of this disc. I have a very small list of cd's that i consider nearly perfect. This list only contains four cd's at this very moment, this is one of them. This cd is proof that there is some serious talent among the members of this band. There is only one song on the whole disc that i am not totally thrilled with, that is "Wasted Time". I am a true connoisseur of vocal talent, and there is just an overwhelming amount of screaming on that one track for me. I would be hard pressed to name my favorite track here, but if need be i would lean towards "Moisture". I'm sure i have listened to that one more frequently than any of the others. This isn't just your average metal/rock/alternative offering. In fact, i'm not really sure what category to put this in. One thing is for sure, these guys can really play their instruments and have come up with a very original sound. I very much recommend this cd to anyone with a true appreciation for talent. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

- WOW ! What a CD.
Simply SUPERB. The music and J.R. Richards sends tingles down my spine. The lyrics are phenomenal ! My favourites are Haze, Give and Only For So Long. I've been listening to rock for over 25 years and the only other band to "hit" me like Dishwalla is Uriah Heep. The best album I've purchased in well over 10 years. WOW!

- More to Count on than just Blue Cars...
An excellent CD! When I first heard it, I thought it pretty much sounded like everything else out there, but listening to it more and more made me realize how original their sound is. From the satire of "Pretty Babies" and the humor of "Miss Emma Peel" to the mysteriousness of "Moisture" and "Date With Sarah" (hidden track), this disc has it all. The whole band works together perfectly with each other to give the songs life. I'm looking forward very much to the follow up.
