- great atmosphere
This album was suggested by a friend as a "must have" and by the time I finally tracked it down, I wondered if it would live up to the hype. It really does. The songs are a far stretch from their early material, but this is a beautiful showcase for the mellower side of Dr. Hook.
- a comfort in my old age
There was a time when You Make My Pants Want To Get Up and Dance felt real. I like the variety of music on the Pleasure and Pain album by Dr. Hook. Now that I have free time, I hardly know what to listen to. I forgot some things I used to enjoy. This is the kind of music I am dusting off occasionally. The first time I heard these songs, it was surprising that anyone dares to express so much. When I feel creepy, the beginning of Dooley Jones makes me feel like I am going to hear another song that goes deep into the kind of trouble that Americans have been trained to run away from. I think I heard When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman on this album, just like on their greatest hits. You watch her eyes. I like Sweetest of All for: keep your goodbyes in your pocket. You ain't going nowhere at all. These are some sentimental favorites.

- If you like old love songs, buy this one.
Dr. Hook was a mainstay for those of us who grew up in the late 1970's and early 1980's. This album in particular was not a top-seller, but the songs are very melodic and heartfelt. I have recently ordered this CD through GEMM after searching for a very long time to find it. I highly recommend this album if you are a fan of Dr. Hook or the songs of the late 70's and early 80's.

- An Amazon Title Blunder
The first 11 titles of disc 1 are screwed up. Sloppy data entry for sure.
