Eels fans have reason to jump up and down with the release of USELESS TRINCKETS, a three-disc box set that includes B-sides, soundtrack cuts, rarities and unreleased songs from between 1996-2006. Those who know bandleader E.'s singing and songwriting, and his band's cathartic, alt-rock sound will already have plenty to look forward to, but it's the wealth of surprises on USELESS TRINCKETS that makes it worthwhile.
<p>Amid the live tracks (there are a handful culled from BBC sessions) are movie soundtrack pieces (from THE END OF VIOLENCE and LEVITY, among others) and wonderful covers, including James Carr's "The Dark End of the Street," Prince's "If I Was Your Girlfriend," and Daniel Johnston's "Living Life." The third disc is a DVD that features live performances from the band's 2006 Lollapalooza appearance.

- The Hidden Gem of the early 90's
It's amazing to me as I listen through the Eels large catalog, that most people consider them a one hit wonder band. All of their works have a great range of sound and in depth lyrics that get you lost in E's at times bizarre voice. The B-sides collection is no exception to this. More often than not I buy these listen to them once and they get lost in my cd collection (b-side collections), the Eels collection is an exception to this though. Both the reintepretations of their own and others songs make this a vital part of anyones cd collection. - Special fans!
This 2-disc package with 50 songs,is very special, the Eels fans will find versions of their favorite songs, some more successful than others: Novocaine For The Soul, My Beloved Monster, Souljacker Part 1. Purists will object, but is a good choice for collectors! - Useless Trinkets Not A Useless Album
The Eels have been one of my favorite bands for years now, and it is awesome to see this compilation. There are so many new songs on these 2 discs that I have never heard before, and a ton of great B-Sides and live performances of some of the best Eels songs. E is an absolute genius, and it is really cool to see even more of that shine through on this 2-disc set. Enjoy! |
