Disco de Emerson, Lake & Palmer: “Live Broadcasts: Collector's Rarities [DVD]”

If you are like me, and you have every possible DVD release of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, than this DVD will end up being a duplicate of what you already have.

If you already have "Emerson, Lake, and Palmer - Masters From the Vaults" (INT1524 NTSC) from Intense Media Ltd. Then this new DVD of "The Live Broadcasts" is the same thing. The exact same film and footage.

However, there is a difference. "Masters From the Vaults" is in the original 1:33 Full Screen. This newer release was made to be 1:85 Wide Screen. Which means, they had to cut off the top and the bottom of the picture so that it would appear to be Widescreen. For example: The footage where you would see Keith Emerson playing piano. On the "Masters From the Vaults" version, you see it all. But on this simulated Widescreen version, the top of Keith's head is cut off, and worse yet, you won't see his hands or the keys of the piano. They've been cut off to create this "widescreen" appearance. The same thing happens with Greg Lake and his guitar. So, with an old film like this made to appear to be closer (everything a little larger), the graininess of the film becomes more apparent. In other words, the picture just isn't as good.

I've watched them both, side by side. This "Live Broadcasts" DVD was made with an effort to give you something less than what it should be.

The sound quality is still the same 2 Channel Stereo, so no improvements there either.

Overall, "Masters From the Vaults" is a better buy. If you haven't bought either yet, definately buy "Masters From the Vaults" instead of this one. Rent this one, like I did, if you wanna see what I mean.

I still believe that ELP is the greatest band on earth!! I hope they find more unreleased film footage. But, we gotta be careful and watch out for these re-released duplicates that come out from various sources that all hope to profit from the same thing already available.

You must have this for your collection of ELP material and also if your interested in the band that set the bar for innovation and change which swept the world.

Not perfect but a resonably good early concert by ELP. There are significantly less headache-inspiring visuals that "Pictures" and many actually fit the music. The performances are very early and pretty terrific, with a strange early version of "Tiger in a Spotlight" and TWO encores of "Nutcracker". The band sems to be having much fun on stage and the act is much looser that later classic ELP.

I quite enjoyed it.

This is ELP how can you not give it 5 stars?!!!

Of course the production is not the best but that's not the point of this legendary material being offered.

This is the same disc as ELP "Masters from the Vaults." It looks to be a somewhat better copy but is about the best you can expect from a TV broadcast of the 70's.

Of course this is ELP and any footage is welcome. The boys are in top form performing their early music from their first album. Progressive rock masters, much maligned for no good reason, these are some of the best musicians in the world. So the talentless Sex Pistols put them down? Bollocks!

Sure they fell apart after Works, but in their prime they were the masters of Progressive rock.

Only Yes and Genesis rank up there with these guys.

The disc is almost an hour long and includes live performances of:

The Barbarian, Rondo/Bach Improvisations, Drum Solo, Nut Rocker, Take a Pebble, Knife Edge.

The performances are good with a minimal of effects that makes the Pictures DVD annoying.

Once again I ask when will they make the full Pictures at an Exhibition DVD available with the missing 45 minutes of footage as it was originally cut?

I actually have a copy of the full show but I would still like to see the whole thing remastered WITHOUT the annoying special effects. Check the web for "BobbyShred" to find it.

There is also a Japanese version of the Tarkus tour, filled with annoying effects that is worth seeing. Maybe they can dig that up also.

I don't know about you guys but I still listen to ELP all the time, their music is timeless to me, truly classic rock.

This DVD is definatly worth having. I say buy it so it gives them the inclination to release more.

I purchased this in early May and still haven't gotten it yet !! what the .... heck ???
