Eve 6 Album: “Horrorscope [Edited]”

Eve 6 Album: “Horrorscope [Edited]”
Description :
Eve 6: Max Collins (vocals, bass); Jon Siebels (guitar, background vocals); Tony Fagenson (keyboards, drums, background vocals).
Additional personnel: Don Gilmore (keyboards).
Recorded at NRG Recording Services, North Hollywood, California.
The sophomore effort by these L.A. kids (RCA actually signed them while they were still in high school) is solid, melodic pop-punk, with hints of Material Issue, Green Day, and even Cheap Trick if you listen hard enough. It's saved from being just this side of generic by bassist/lead singer Jon Siegel's sharp, almost stream-of-consciousness lyrical wordplay, the likes of "Your heinous highness broke her hymen/hey man try to quit your cryin'," from the amusing attempted suicide song "On the Roof Again".
Besides this lyrical banter, HORRORSCOPE has some surprisingly imaginative arrangements, such as the gorgeous yet understated string section on the Police-ish "Here's to the Night," that sustain interest and point to an astute songcraft behind the pop hooks that bodes well for the futures of at least some of the members of Eve 6.

- just LOVE it!

I love this CD!!! I heard Promise for the first time and it immediately clicked in my head. I couldn't exactly explain what I thought about it, except that I liked it, until I heard the rest of the songs on the CD. I downloaded a Rescue MP3 and loved it, so decided to download the rest of the songs, and before I knew it, I was totally addicted to all of the songs and so eventually bought the CD. I now know what it was I saw in Promise and I see in all Eve6 songs: They're a punk sound, but a sophisticated punk sound. Definitely more mature than other punk bands out there. I never get bored of this CD. The lead singer, Max Collins, writes such deliciously complex lyrics, every time I hear the songs, it's like hearing them for the first time. It's refreshing and intellectually stimulating, but still fun punk, and that's the first time I can really truthfully say that about this genre. I love the grammar and rhyming, every little part delightful in a different way. (Even the title - "Horrorscope"!) My personal favorites are On The Roof Again, (...), Jet Pack, and Bang. Eve6's first CD is also very good, but I favor this one more. The songs on this sophomore album are more light-hearted, funny, and show an aura of experience. This band and all their music scream originality and talent. They are my current favorite band and I look forward to any new material they come out with.

- Brilliant - no sophomore jinx

Brilliant album. Original and not derivative Punk/Pop/Rock music. Max Collins is a wordsmith and the music and production are great. Rescue, Promise, Here's To The Night, Nocturnal, Jet Pack, and Girl Eyes are particularly brilliant.

- Eve 6 is a great band...

This is a great cd. All of the songs on here are wonderful especially 'promise' and 'on the roof again'. All of the songs have a catchy tune and are great to sing along to. Anyone would like this cd if you liked the other eve6 cd or any kind of punk music. Buy it!

- right

This CD is God's gift to alternative listeners. The songs are so meaningful. I wish I never heard this CD so I could buy and hear it all over again.

- history repeats its self....

In my opinion, Eve 6 is one of the greatest bands. Their songs are so catchy, their lyrics flow so well! They have grown up alot since highschool, which you can tell by listening to this cd. Its a great follow up to their first self titled album. (which I highly suggest you pick up also, its good) Every time you listen to this cd, you notice something different in each song that you never noticed before. To me, that is one of the many things that makes up this talent filled cd. This cd will remain one of your favorites for a long time!!
