Shout Factory Releasing Hunter S. Thompson’s Lost RecordingsThe Gonzo Tapes, a five-disc set of unreleased recordings by Rolling Stone’s own Hunter S. Thompson, will be released on October 28th. Compiled while filmmakers were producing Gonzo: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, the audio on The Gonzo Tapes was recorded between 1965 and 1975, with Thompson using the tapes to capture his thoughts and descriptions of what was happening around him or to look back at what he experienced. Thompson’s widow granted permission to director Alex Gibney, producer Eva Orner and archivist Don Fleming to go through the tapes that were stored in boxes in the basement of Thompson’s Woody Creek, Colorado home. Disc 1 on the collection will feature Thompson’s year riding with the Hell’s Angels, Discs 2 and 3 both draw from his novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Disc 4 covers Thompson’s exploits between 1973 and 1974 and the fifth disc features his 1975 trip to Saigon. The cover features original artwork by Ralph Steadman and the package will contain essays by Gibney and Thompson’s fellow foreign correspondent Loren Jenkins. "Numinosum" by Ascension of the WatchersAscension Of The Watchers features Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell, and is signed to 13th Planet—the label owned and operated by Ministry mastermind Al Jourgensen. However, despite the industrial-aggro associations of this project, it's the anti-thesis of cyberized metal! So if you're a huge Fear Factory or Ministry-diehard, check all of your pre-conceived notions and expectations at the door, because the pedigrees of those involved do not synch up with the music put forth on Numinosum. The album hypnotizes with ambient soundscapes, 5-minute-and-counting-songs, and Bell and his cohorts aren't afraid to stretch their creative muscles and show their softer sides. Ascension Of The Watchers is a bit like new age music, but hold up! I'm not talking "New Age" in the Yanni/John Tesh-sphere. Rather, this music is for metalheads looking for something a little more relaxing—a "sonic escape," if you will. Numinosum is peaceful, brooding, a bit eccentric, and will appeal to your cerebral

"Cover Up" by MinistryIf you want to judge a band by its covers, then Ministry have set themselves up for your hearty pat on the back with Cover Up, the final release by the band which is breaking up after establishing itself as the industrial scene’s force to be reckoned with in the early '90s. Most of Ministry’s albums have featured commentary on politics and the government, but Cover Up is the band’s way of having fun and flipping the bird. This is the Ministry party album. Featuring a variety of cohorts in the form of Fear Factory's Burton C. Bell and Static-X's Tony Campos, both of which share a common musical gene with Ministry, Cover Up features mechanized, cyberiffic versions of The Rolling Stones' "Under My Thumb" and an upbeat yet gnashing retooling of Power Station's "Bang A Gong," where frontman Al Jourgensen asks, "What the fuck does Bang A Gong mean?" But the album’s biggest treat is Jourgensen's take on "What A Wonderful World," where his voice takes on the same gravelly pallor of Louis

"The Ascension" by OtepBy now we can all agree on this much: nu-metal was responsible for an unthinkable amount of garbage. But if there's one band extreme music fans should thank Fred Durst and his goateed cronies for, it's Los Angeles' OTEP. Counting metal's most imposing frontwoman (not in Arch Enemy) among its ranks, and pretty much ignoring drop-D sportsmetal conventions, the quartet crafted a pair of meaty releases (and one lean EP) that derived "grooves" from Cali stoner metal thickness, as opposed to the hip-hop its peers so clumsily approximated. On album three, as with past releases, what keeps OTEP in "nu-" territory are their guitars, which hang out somewhere between those of scene grampas Coal Chamber and Fear Factory and never miss a chance to make use of detuned flat-fingered riffs. Hardly groundbreaking. But what keeps the record fresh is frontwoman Otep Shamaya's dynamic vocals, thrashing from full-bore scream to whisper in less than seconds. To wit, The Ascension

This is the first time the pair have work together since Cazares left the seminal industrial band in 2002. Although details on the new band are currently scarce, bassist Byron Stroud, who previously played with Fear Factory and Strapping Young Lad, and former Testament drummer Gene Hoglan are rumoured to be featuring in the line-up. Welcome to the 'Dollhouse' [Watch, TiVo, Kill]Friday nights are so bad that there's a well-researched Wikipedia entry devoted to the death slot. Fox is getting all mavericky and throwing Dollhouse into the mix, assuming the target audience won't have plans tonight. WATCH Dollhouse [9 PM, Fox] - Eliza Dushku stars in and executive produces this new series created by Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, other shows that the internet loves). Dushku plays Echo, a woman employed by a company called Dollhouse that erases the minds of its workers, reprograms their personalities to suit the needs of its wealthy clients, supposedly erases them again, and starts over. The "dolls" can play anything from paramour to a lonely dude to a Buffy-like ass-kicker. In tonight's premiere, Echo is assigned as a hostage negotiator so that a businessman doesn't have to go to the police. Meanwhile, an FBI agent's (Tahmoh Penikett) pursuit of the Dollhouse puts him in danger. The previews for Dollhouse show a visual style we can get behind, but our Whedon-humping friends might psyche us out of future viewings for fear of having too much in common with them. TiVo Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2009 [11:30 PM, TNT] - With NBA All-Star excitement in full swing, this is going to be a big sports weekend on TNT. In a calculated move to keep the male audience tonight, here's a thirty-minute peek at 2009's SI Swimsuit Issue featuring covergirl Bar Refaeli as well as some rookie posers. It almost warms the heart to see that there is still a swimsuit issue, let alone a sports magazine, given that all media will be digital and porn within ten years. Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory [10 PM, MTV] - This past week's premiere of another MTV series featuring Rob of Rob & Big re-airs tonight. While Big's presence is missed, there is an air of whimsy about the massive warehouse where Rob and his boys indulge their fantasies. Tonight, Lamar Odom of the Lakers visits to discuss a business opportunity and Rob installs a blob indoors. We smiled through the whole episode, so
