Disco de Forever the Sickest Kids: “Underdog Alma Mater”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Forever the Sickest Kids built up a reputation in the aughts with a ferocious live show and a massive online presence which even included an ongoing comic strip. That sense of raw energy and playfulness abounds on its 2008 debut, UNDERDOG ALMA MATER. The Orlando, Florida based six-piece peppers its fast-paced emo-flecked power pop with spiraling keyboards and sing-a-long choruses for a sort of 80s grandeur. Frontman Jonathan Cook's vocals lilt longingly a la Pete Wentz whether flailing against disparity on "Whoa Oh!" or poetically recalling a long-ago friend on "Hey Brittany."

- Pretty awesome

I was beyond stoked for this album. i remember back when they were number one on Purevolume for Hey Brittany and I was hooked on them since that moment. When they released Television Off, Party On and it was mailed to my house, I blasted that cd for god knows how long singing into a microphone. I didn't think they could get any better than they were at that moment. THEN Underdog Alma Mater came out and they proved me wrong, they blew this cd out of the water. They pulled out all the stops. There is no such thing as a filler track on this album. They prove that they are totally worth all the hype they've been getting. Every song is completely amazing. However, if you're an old fan that was with them in the genesis of this band, you'll get tired of hearing "Breakdown", "She's A Lady", and "Believe Me, I'm Lying" because they were on TOPO. Even though they don't hurt the album, we ALL thought it was going to be new tracks with the exception of Hey Brittany because if you talked to them they probably told you "good things come to those who wait." This band is an amazing band to watch. Especially if you're there from the beginning, you remember when they weren't even signed and they had the old video for she's a lady. Speaking of which, what is up with the voice effect when John sings "She's A Lady and ladies shouldn't messed with." Am I the only one who finds that effect kind of obsolete. It's not bad enough to ruin the entire song, but i don't know why but it irritates me.

Nevertheless, a monster of an album and I await whatever they're going to do.

- Just awesome!!

This album is awesome. I was a bit worried, considering so few people had reviewed it. But I have loved it ever since it started! Just perfect for its genre, and I love the slight dabbling with electronic. Love it!!

- Sickest Kids

I bought this as a gift for my wife who absolutely loves it. It is a cross between New Found Glory, Simple Plan, (old simple plan) and Panic at the Disco. 3 of her favorite bands. It hasn't come out of her CD player since it arrived. It comes highly recommended to anyone who is into the Pop-Culture stuff. I'm not a huge fan of that. more into Metal than anything but if your girl or daughter or if you like teeny-bopping, go ahead and buy it.

- Just ok

This sounds like a fusion of many other established bands. It feels like they just took a little from everyone else and yet they still don't sound as good as many other bands with the same sound. But what bugs me most is the lead singers voice. It is whiney and annoying to listen to. Over all I would say they are just ok. They have some good points but not enough.

- FTSK = Complete Awesomeness!

I'm a bit older than the target audience of this album (32 yo) but can't get enough of this album, I play it constantly! FTSK is a truly original group and has supplanted my other recent favorite album, Metro Station. Anyway, if you like "Metro Station", "Blink 182" and "Fall Out Boy" you very well might LOVE this! The additional "Becky Starz (Remix)" track available on iTunes exclusively is definitely worth obtaining (it's out there if you know what I mean), and is not included with the set from Amazon.
