Beck’s “Odelay” Goes Deluxe, Lily Allen and Jamie Lynn Spears Announce Pregnancies, The Band and Burt Bacharach Score Lifetime Achievement Grammys and More On January 29th, Beck will release a double-disc deluxe version of his 1996 album Odelay that includes sixteen B-sides and compilation tracks that haven’t seen U.S. release before, as well as two never-before-released songs from the album’s original sessions produced by the Dust Brothers: “Inferno” and “Gold Chains.” The second disc also includes remixes by Aphex Twin, Mario Caldato Jr. and U.N.K.L.E., plus “Burro,” a Spanish-language rendition of “Jackass” recorded with a mariachi band. Lily Allen and her boyfriend, Chemical Brothers’ Ed Simons, have confirmed they are expecting their first child. Allen’s rep told Us Weekly, “As the pregnancy is at such an early stage, the couple will be making no further comment, but they are obviously thrilled by the news,” and added that Allen’s follow-up to this year’s Alright, Still, “will be released as planned next year.” ‘Tis the season for pregnancy announcements: Sixteen-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney’s little sis and star of Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101, is reportedly expecting her first child with boyfriend Casey Aldridge. In a statement, Nickelodeon said, “We respect Jamie Lynn’s decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation.” After the news became public, the Christian publisher planning to release a parenting-themed title penned by mom Lynne Spears next year said the book is “delayed indefinitely … delayed, not canceled.” But at least one person doesn’t think the baby news is true: Britney told paparazzi, “My sister’s not pregnant!” while out shopping last night. Metallica are adding more international festival dates to their early summer itinerary, fueling speculation that the follow-up to 2003’s St. Anger will be released around then. The band has scheduled dates in Poland and the Netherlands at th

Led Zeppelin Book Press Conference, “Dick in a Box” Wins an Emmy, Gwen Stefani Says No Doubt May Return to Their Ska Roots Led Zeppelin has scheduled a press conference for this Wednesday in London, Billboard reports, fueling speculation that the band is preparing a reunion announcement. Early last week hysteria over an alleged Zeppelin show advertisement in London led to reports that the group had placed the 02 arena on hold for a night. Though Robert Plant previously laughed off reunion rumors, the band has yet to issue a comment about the latest developments. Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg’s SNL skit-song “Dick in a Box” won an Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics at the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday. American Idol also nabbed its first-ever Emmy for its charity special “Idol Gives Back.” The primetime awards (which may be “Dick”-free) air next week. A cut from Hanson’s latest album became the most requested song on Chicago’s alternative radio station Q101 after DJs played “The Great Divide” for three weeks without disclosing its artist. After it was revealed, the track saw a 95 percent increase in digital downloads. Gwen Stefani is hinting that No Doubt could return to its roots and make a ska record when they re-enter the studio together this fall. Stefani also indicated she is “coming to the end of my own chapter” with her dance records. Starz Cinema will premiere Too Tough to Die: A Tribute to Johnny Ramone on September 15th, the third anniversary of the Ramones guitarist’s death. [Photo: Wilson/Getty]

Hot Issue Hits and Misses: Coldplay and Enuff Z’Nuff Rolling Stone’s 2008 Hot Issue spotlights acts like Band of Horses and Vampire Weekend (more on that here). For the next week, we’ll be taking a look at Hot Issue hits and misses from the past twenty-one years (because nobody’s cultural thermometer is accurate all the time). Hit: In 2002, just before the release of A Rush of Blood to the Head, Rolling Stone caught up with Coldplay as they toured small clubs for perhaps the last time, and named the group Hot Band. It was a pretty accurate assessment. Rush went platinum four times; its follow-up, X&Y, sold more than two million copies. Perhaps fueled by his Hot List status, Chris Martin went on to wed Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Rolling Stone’s Hot Actress of 1994, in 2003. Miss: It was the year of Nirvana’s Nevermind. Pearl Jam’s Ten. Primal Scream’s Screamadelica. So many bands to choose from, yet we chose Chicago rockers Enuff Z’Nuff as “The Hot Band” of 1991. Maybe it was their faux-GN’R spirit that blinded us. In the end, the music of Pearl Jam and Nirvana resonated throughout the Nineties, while the only evidence of Enuff Z’Nuff’s existence, outside of that Hot Issue, is their cover of “Happy Holiday” that appears on the Monster Ballads X-Mas promo we just got in the mail.

The Killers - Sawdust Artist: The Killers Review: This b-sides-and-rarities comp is split between glammy synth-pop like "Sweet Talk" and straighter, heavier rock like "Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf." The cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" should have stayed in the vaults, but it's hard to deny Brandon Flowers' melodic gifts, which fuel catchy uptempos like "Under the Gun" and "Where the White Boys Dance," an eerie thing that sounds like it could have come from some great lost post-punk band. "In the Future" by Black MountainBlack Mountain's 2005 debut won the hearts of critics, Coldplay and especially those indie kids with heavy metal leanings haunting their past. It's been a few years since that collection of Sabbath-laced, Crazy Horse-fueled stoner jams, and it seems that with some time off, they expanded their repertoire in a few notable ways. In the Future is whole-heartedly Black Mountain—heavy jams are contained within, and the 16-plus minute "Bright Lights" should surely satiate any fans' long-held wishes for the group to take their epic, more psychedelic stage show into the studio. The sprawling track easily forms the centerpiece of the album: The first four minutes greet listeners with utterances of the phrase "bright lights" in a creepy, warbled keyboard riff, before the band shifts into serious, heavy guitar jams for the remaining twelve minutes. But it's not all heavy tunes; Black Mountain dabbles a bit as well in the ballad area. "Stay Free" connects

"Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release" by Simian Mobile DiscoYou know the old saying: if at first you don't succeed, try, try again as an electronica dance act. James Ford and James Anthony Shaw first made rock music as two members of the atmospheric foursome Simian, releasing two records via Astralwerks Records. But, aside from the wildly popular Justice remix "We Are Your Friends (Never Be Alone)," the band never really took off and the members parted ways, leaving Ford and Shaw to either reinvent themselves or fade into obscurity. And with their first record as Simian Mobile Disco, the duo re-emerges armed with a definitive answer. Shaw and Ford's Attack Decay Sustain Release is a pulsating collection of unabashed club bangers. There's nothing restrained or subtle about the record's consistent coke-fueled pace or its kinship with the electronic
