I'm referring above to the reviewer from England's comment. No disrespect to Ricky Martin, but as an ex-Californian exposed regularly to latin music, this is the real thing.
"Volare!" was never the same after the Gypsy Kings' recording, and a great start to the first and upbeat disc of the set. "Bambaleo", "Baile Mi", "Pida Me La", "A Ti A Ti" all are standouts, but there's no way you can listen to this first disc without being enervated. However, the one single cut that really gets to me and has me singing along (You wouldn't really want to hear that, LOL) is the previously unavailable "Oh Eh, Oh Eh". Hey, if you ever wake up feeling blah, try putting this on!
The second disc has the more beautiful and evocative ballads, such as my favorite, "Mujer". I didn't personally care as much for their rendition of "Hotel California", but, well, that's just me.
All in all, this is for those who enjoy the real, earthy latin music.
This CD is a true celebration for the spirit.
I'm a big GK fan. This album is magic but hey, don't mess with 'Hotel california'-thats eagles and eagles alone!!!!
I had never heard Gipsy Kings until I heard "Hotel California" on the radio...I knew I HAD to HAVE it. The whole cd is so full of LIFE and ENERGY that "Hotel California" is just one of the great songs in this collection. I can't stop playing it. Gipsy Kings are GREAT.
I have always maintained that while masterful, the Eagle's Hotel California was meant to be done in Spanish. Now it is. Sorry Eagles fans, the gypsy kings have rewritten a masterpeice in to something truly eternal and its on the best o Volare!
