Grand Funk Railroad Album: “Greatest Hits”

Grand Funk Railroad Album: “Greatest Hits”
Description :
Grand Funk Railroad: Mel Schacher, Craig Frost, Don Brewer, Mark Farner, Dennis Bellinger.
Recording information: 1969 - 1975.
This 14-track Grand Funk Railroad hits collection, released in 2006, does solid justice to the Michigan boogie-rock legends. While certainly not the most cerebral band in the annals of rock, Grand Funk possessed a sweaty, caveman grandeur that remains difficult to fully dismiss. We're talking about a band that rocked so hard they needed to wear headbands--surely they deserve at least a little of our respect. Among the collection's tracks are all of Grand Funk's radio hits, including "Heartbreaker," "The Loco Motion," "Mean Mistreater," and "We're An American Band." While Grand Funk received little to no love from the rock cognoscenti of the 1970s, their mildly head-banging jams and good-times vibe have made them a beloved staple of classic rock radio decades after hitting the scene.
[Note: The package also contains a bonus DVD packed with killer live footage.]

- About Time!!!

It's about time Grand Funk's fans had a real DVD! All we have had up to this point is the occasional bootleg. My only complaint is that the DVD is WAY too short. Both of the represented concerts need to be released in their entirety! Even with this DVD we are only being teased.

As for the greatest hits CD, it should have came with the DVD in the first place, instead of having been released a couple of months before without it.

Overall, the purchase is well worth it for the DVD. As for a greatest hits collection, I would recommend 1999's "Thirty Years of Funk Anthology". (Also for historical purposes, I would like to se a CD release of "Mark, Don, & Mel: 1969-71".)

I hope that this is the begining of us finally getting some more Grand Funk Railroad on DVD! CAPITOL, ARE YOU LISTENING?!!

- Why Grand Funk Railroad Ruled

You want to know why the PEOPLE loved GFR - watch the DVD. The critics panned them so much - and why? They were truly the American Band - quintessentially the best garage band. On the DVD - "Inside Looking Out" ALONE is worth the price... then add the amazing "I'm Your Captain" at Shea Stadium (where, by the way, they outsold the BEATLES) and you've got some amazing memories RIGHT HERE. I was blessed enough to have seen the 3 Amigos twice in the day.... this just brings it all back. If I were to have any negative comment, it would be that Capitol could have incuded MORE.

- At last

Oh my god, as a great GFR-Fan I had to grow up to 46 years old for seeing this fantastic group in motion pictures. I was waiting decades for this. On the DVD are 5 titles from different times, but everyone presented in inimitable playing passion. Not only in musical case, this band was standing behind, what there were doing and saying about social and political themes. This is what you can feel in the power of the American Bands music.

Together with the CD this package is an ideal access into the world of handmade, progressive music. I hope this release will not be the last of it on DVD. I don't wonna wait for years to get concerts like "Shea Stadium 1971", the Live Tour "Caught in the Act 1975" or "Bosnia 1997" on DVD.

Please Mark, Don, Mel and Craig and Capitol Records notice this and take care of your fans.

- Worth the price

The CD includes their most important hits, except track 11 ("Take me"). The DVD could be much better, but we cannot expect more, because this is a "CD + DVD" edition. I am satisfied just to watch Inside Looking Out from the original 1969 PBS show, 1st time on DVD.
