L.A. prosecutors have decided it was the photographer and not Britney Spears who was to blame for the singer running over the victim’s foot late last year. The paparazzi member filed felony charges in May, which were dismissed. An album that the band Chicago recorded back in 1993, titled Stone of Sisyphus, will finally get a proper release. The band’s former record label shelved the album, but Rhino will resurrect the “lost” album today. Guided By Voices’ Robert Pollard and the Decemberists‘ John Moen (formerly of Stephen Malkmus’ Jicks) have formed a new side project Boston Spaceships. The band’s first album, Brown Submarine, is due out September 9th. Producer Swizz Beatz claims that he’s working with Michael Jackson and that he’s in the process of producing the King of Pop’s tour. Musicians are not strangers to the devil’s weed, so check out the five best music-related moments from the book. • Rob Thomas Is the King of Advice: In a section called “The Art of Scoring,” Matchbox Twenty frontman Thomas says, “The absolute last thing you want to do is walk down to the corner of Stab Me Avenue and Beat Me Street and start asking shady people if they know where you can find some really good stuff.” • Buy Vinyl: The book endorses a number of classic albums that contained stonerriffic gatefolds, including Black Sabbath’s Paranoid, Led Zeppelin’s Houses of the Holy and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Gratitude. • Like His Band, Adam Levine is Totally Predictable: The Maroon 5 singer writes a section called “Music to Smoke To,” and it’s got all the usual trappings: Phish, Bob Marley and Miles Davis (though he does throw a curveball with Notorious B.I.G. — a truly underrated MC for smokers). • Bob Dylan Was Also Good At Math: Sure, everybody knows that “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35″ has a fantastically smoke friendly chorus, but did you know that when you multiply 12 by 35, you get 420? • Don’t Smoke With Bob Pollard: The prolific genius behind Guided By Voices has some sure fire buzzkills in his “Music to Smoke To” page, including a track that he describes as “a guy who somehow screams and whispers simultaneously for four minutes.”

'Cleo' Unites A-LIst Talent For World's Finest Batshit 3-D Musical [Profiles In Insanity]

It's long been rumored that Steven Soderbergh keeps a checklist in his wallet — a tattered index card on which he's scrawled dreams nurtured since before his sex, lies and videotape breakthrough nearly 20 years ago: "win an Oscar," "make a four-hour Socialist biopic," "work with a porn star," and alllll the way at the bottom, "shoot a completely fucked-up 3-D musical version of Cleopatra." Finally, with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Hugh Jackman in talks to star, he might be that much closer to crossing off that last Impossible Dream. Variety reports that Soderbergh will follow his current film The Girlfriend Experience with Cleo, a $30 million project with music provided by Guided By Voices and a script by GBV's bassist James Greer. No one seems to know how or even if this news squares with the Liberace biopic Soderbergh is plotting with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, but we admit we're a little less intrigued by Cleo knowing that Jackman would not, in fact, play the Egyptian queen. And surely, in a sleek, dark loft somewhere in Australia, a sleepless Baz Luhrmann is wondering why he didn't think of this first. Soderbergh to make 3-D 'Cleopatra' [Variety]
