alex:: Saturday Afternoon #4 :: the fourth in this series from my drive around southern Ada County last weekend. if you journey far enough south, eventually you are stopped by the Snake River, which flows east to west across almost all of southern Idaho. eventually, the Snake defines the border between Oregon and Idaho as it winds its way north before joining up with the mighty Columbia River that flows out to the Pacific at Portland, Oregon. this view is of a section of the Snake that has carved out canyons in the plains. the canyon walls are home to many species of birds, namely raptors like hawks, falcons, and eagles. the World Center for Birds of Prey is located not far north of here, in the rural area south of Boise (very near where i now live). the WCBP is most well known for its central role in breeding the peregrine falcon back from the brink of extinction to where it is today, off the Endangered Species list. the WCBP was established in Boise by Morley Nelson, who championed the safer human impact of humans with raptors most notably through successfully lobbying state and private instiutions to mandate different designs for power poles and high voltage power lines to be more raptor-friendly. this picture was taken here. glad you all are enjoying this series, there is still more to come! alex
