Hawthorne Heights

Hawthorne Heights Album: “Fragile Future”

Hawthorne Heights Album: “Fragile Future”
Description :
Hawthorne Heights: Matt Ridenour, Eron Bucciarelli, Micah Carli, JT Woodruff.
Audio Mixer: Jeff Schneeweis.
Recording information: Hype Dance Studio, Chico, CA.
Dayton, Ohio's Hawthorne Heights have had a tumultuous history. They experienced a huge success straight out of the gate with their first album,THE SILENCE IN BLACK & WHITE, but after the release of their second, they suffered the loss of guitarist/vocalist Casey Calvert, who died at the age of 26. Soldiering on in the wake of that tragedy, their tellingly titled third album, FRAGILE FUTURE, finds the band progressing but still holding on to their core musical values.
While it's hard not to read some of the band's personal travails into lyrics about "all the friends that you have lost" ("The Business of Paper Stars"), the absence of Calvert affects the band sonically as well; without his occasional roaring vocal interjections between JT Woodruff's highly melodic vocals, the screamo element is removed from the band's emo sound. If anything, the softer and harder sides of their approach meet in the middle more than ever before, offering a more balanced feel instead of segregating the quiet songs from the rockers. Nevertheless, the band continues to fuse rock, punk, pop, and emo, displaying unbridled energy and an undeniable sense of purpose as they move ahead into their FRAGILE FUTURE.

- Nothing short of spectacular!

I wasn't sure what to expect from Fragile Future. After hearing "Rescue Me" I worried that maybe the entire CD would be softer sounding, similar to that song. I was wrong! Though Casey's screaming is noticeably absent on Fragile Future, giving the band a slightly different sound than on their previous releases, Fragile Future is still a solid set of songs. In a word, it rocks! The lyrics, the beats, the message - it all culminates in a feast for the ears. If you're a fan of Hawthorne, this CD is a must.

- A change

I think this is definitely a change for Hawthorne Heights. I have been listening to their music for about four years now, and this is the biggest "jump" I have heard in their music. Yes, their music obviously sounds different because they no longer have the screamer (Casey Calvert), but they are still carrying on with their music. It was their decision to not replace Casey, and I do respect that. Casey's passing gave them new opportunities to go in a different direction with their music, and this is definitely a nice change from what I have always heard from them. I really do like this album. It shows their true feelings inspired by this past year, but yet it's a pretty upbeat album. You've got the mellow songs with a lot of feeling, but then you've got the really upbeat sort of pop-rock songs that have a lot of feeling. They have done a great job on this album. <3 :)

- Was great

Buying cd's used is awesome. Came quick and was in good condition. The album is good too, a little different than the old hawthorne heights since there's no screaming but still doesn't disappoint me. Everyone has their own opinions on whats good music so I will leave my review with that.

- blah

I actually had no idea that HH lost a member when I bought this. Without this knowledge, I listened and knew that there was a big change. I dont think its just the singer though. Yes, I missed the old screaming for sure, but the album still kinda reminds me of the new Saosin and Thrice albums too. These old school bands that cut the scene wide open have had too much time to grow and mature and sound like more alt mainstream versions of themselves. I hope theyre making money. They deserve it. But me? Im moving on to search for more ground breaking stuff.

- A great progression

you can definitely tell that hawthorne has stepped it up this time around and are definitely carrying on without thier former guitarist casey calvert (which who there is a tribute song for ) anyway check this cd out its a step forward for these guys.
