- Not great but pretty good.

Not a fan of Monochrome at all, but I do like Speak and Spell, Throwing Punches, Smart and Crashing Foreign Cars from Size Matters. I agree that 'LA Water' is the best track and quite possibly the only "5-star" song on this album. It works because it has a classic simple riff that gets built on and layerd over, the melodies are great with Page's classic dry humour "I haven't felt now for a while, the weather here is always warm." This album does suffer from the yelling/growling when singing could have done the job so much better; IMO 'Seeing Eye Dog' is a classic example of this - I always go away with the song being 'sung' in my head, instead of it being growled like in the recording.

At the end of the day, this album could have done with a different rhythm section - great riffs, pretty decent songs, but lacking something really strong to push those riffs out to the listener. My mate always raves about Stanier and Bogden's work on Betty, and as much as we might lament their loss, it's still great that Helmet is alive and active, even if we do only get 3 or 5 songs that we like per new record - that I say is better than nothing!

- Seeing Eye Dog as good as Aftertaste

Up to the release of Seeing Eye Dog, Aftertaste was my favorite Helmet release. However, both SOD and Aftertaste are loaded with catchy riffs and are gloriously noisy. The production quality of SOD is superb as are the vocals. Another plus for SOD is it's diversity. I've listened to SOD several times through -- back to back play. I only stopped after half a dozen spins; but, there are many more to come. Hold up that grungy standard guys!

- excellent

Seeing Eye Dog has many good melody songs.Almost all are heavy and sing-along. Some such as track 5 and 10 have unique atmosphere. I like this album very much as their other albums.

- Album of the year?

Another great album. A mix between the old and new Helmet, but a step up from Monochrome (and i loved that).

Page Hamilton is a genius, you should buy all of his work, go see helmet live and buy lots of whiskey shots for the whole band
