Disco de Hootie & The Blowfish: “Looking For Lucky”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Hootie & The Blowfish: Darius Rucker (vocals, guitar); Mark Bryan (guitar, lap steel guitar, mandolin, background vocals); Jim Sonefeld (piano, drums, percussion, background vocals); Dean Felber (bass guitar, background vocals).
Additional personnel: John Cowan (vocals); Nick Brophy (guitars, programming); Ryan Newell (slide guitar); Sam Bush (fiddle); John Hobbs (piano, organ, Mellotron); Steve Nathan (organ); Herb Pedersen, Matraca Berg (background vocals).
Recording information: Emerald Studios, Nashville, Tennessee.
Hootie & the Blowfish emerged in the mid-1990s as the people's band,
purveying an amiable brand of all-American roots rock full of optimism
and devoid of irony. Naturally, in the process, they rose to the top of most hipster rock critics' hate lists, but endeared themselves to millions of listeners nevertheless. Some 10 years after their peak of popularity, LOOKING FOR LUCKY found them still defying their detractors by relentlessly pursuing their sun-dappled musical vision. Though by this time the band was recording for an indie label, neither their wide-screen production style (John Mellencamp producer Don Gehman is behind the board) nor their open-hearted approach had diminished one iota. Though social and political strife do occasionally rear their heads in the lyrics, the overwhelming feeling on LOOKING FOR LUCKY is one of perserverance and positivity, bolstered by layers of jangling guitar, chiming mandolin, and, of course, Darius Rucker's unmistakable, mountain-sized voice.

- Get Lucky

Another great album from Darius and the boys. Like all of there albums, there are a variety of songs covering a variety of moods. Get out of my mind (track 4) is the first one I go to everytime, then I hit One Love and Leaving.

Thanks for another album guys.

- Hootie is back with the best album of the Summer

This is a great Summer CD that you can play from start to finish and never skip a track. Jam in your car on a long road trip or listen to while you're online.

"State Your Peace" opens up this album in a big way and is one of the catchier and more meaningful songs Hootie has ever written. It rocks and doesn't disappoint. "Hey Sister Pretty" is their answer to Only Wanna Be With You, only this time it's actually a much better song. This is one of their best songs of all time. To anyone who thinks Hootie is a middle age frat band playing bland music, listen to "The Killing Stone" and you will feel differently immediately. This is a powerful song. There are several songs heavily influenced by bluegrass that are better than anything else in the genre, such as "Leaving" and "Autumn Jones." And the first single "One Love" is reminescent of "Hold My Hand."

All in all there is not a better CD out this summer, maybe this year.

Pick up Looking for Lucky and you won't be able to put it down.

Hootie is back on top.

- Classic Hootie

I've bought just about everything that Hootie & The Blowfish has released. Looking For Lucky is right up there with Cracked Rearview Mirror and Fairweather Johnson. Admittedly there may not be a hit single comparable to Only Want to be With You, but Looking for Lucky has no shortage of great Hootie tunes from beginning to end. If you enjoyed Hootie's earlier first two CDs you'll probably appreciate Looking for Lucky.

- Hootie is back... but for the true fans they never left

Hootie's latest work is, as always, amazing. Darius' voice is rich and soothing, the perfect compliment to Marks mellow guitar, nothing new. Dean and Soni play off of each other nicely. This record encompases more of a "Cracked Rear View" feel than the others, however distinguishes itself nicely with a subtle nuance of counrty. As the last album, self-titled, was blended with more of an R&B feel, Lucky is fused with more of a counrty feel. No not "yee haw" redneck country, a perfect example is the cajun feel that John Mellencamp has blended into his sound by means of violin and acordian. This only reiterates the fact that Hootie & the Blowfish are under rated song writers and substancially well versed musicians. It is no small feat for a band have such a diverse body of music. Only a select handful of bands are capable of doing this. For instance, The Black Crowes and The Rolling Stones are two other bands that seemlessly blend all genres into a symphonic form of rock. Like a fine wine, it is the small nuances that bands like Hootie and The Stones add that make the hair stand up on your arm. Don't listen to the poor reviews, those people are ignorant pop hound-poseurs who are only interested in the hot acts of the minute. It is because Hootie is so much more than just a record selling phenom that Looking For Lucky is what it is. Superb musicianship and songwriting that comes from the soul makes this a solid work that creates a warm mood and pleasant imagery, please indulge.

- Hootie's best since Cracked Rear View!

I went to Hootie and the Blowfish's concert in Knoxville, TN on August 4, 2005. Hootie and the Blowfish put on a fantastic show, so I was sure I would buy their new album, "Looking for Lucky" when it came out. Well it's in my cd player, and it's gonna be staying there for a very long time.

1."State your Peace"

A very strong song, great lyrics. A great way to open the album. (8/10)

2. "Hey Sister Pretty"

Great, great song. Very cathcy chorus. One of my favorite songs from the album. A very radio-friendly song. (9/10)

3. "The Killing Stone"

A slower, more intense song. Strong lyrics and meaning. (7.5/10)

4. "Get Out of My Mind"

Very radio-friendly song as well. Reminds me of "Only Wanna Be With You" (8.5/10)

5. "Another Year's Gone By"

Not as catchy as other songs on this album, but compared to other songs I hear on the radio, its still very good. (6.5/10)

6. "Can I See You"

Slower song, Darius sings with real emotion. This song gives me chill bumps when I listen to it. (8/10)

7. "A Smile"

A poppy song that reminds me of earlier Hootie songs, not one of my favorites though. (6/10)

8. "One Love"

Get ready to have this song playing in your head for a long time. This IS Hootie's best song in a long long time! (10/10)

9. "Leaving"

A bluegrass-esque song that is very catchy. This is a really great song that could easily find itself on Country radio stations. Shows the band's versatility. (10/10)

10. "Autumn Jones"

A slower song that has a great chorus. Radio-friendly as well. One of the strongest songs on the album. (9.5/10)

11."Free to Everyone"

Solid song as well, a very feel-good tune. (7.5/10)

12. "Waltz to Me"

A bluegrass-esque song. An absolute gem. This song wont get attention from radio stations, but If you listen to it one, you will understand how good of a song it is. (10/10)

Darius Rucker shines in this album. He has one of the most unique voices in music, and possibly one of the best voices in a long time. The Band shows it's musical talents in this album. This is definitly an album that you turn on and just let it run all the way through. I hope that this album does well, because it is a fantastic album by a fantastically talented band. Hootie and the Blowfish are back, but it's not that they have ever really been gone, its the fact that the music industry has been infatuated with talentless pop starts for about 10 years now. Dont let yourself be sucked into meaningless, talentless manufactured music. Your heart and soul wants to hear great music, so let it. Go and purchase "Looking For Lucky", you will be very happy that you did.
