Hootie and the Blowfish Singer Leads Country Crossover PackDuring a recent interview with a DJ in Tampa, Florida, Darius
Rucker got some shocking news: His solo single "Don't Think I Don't
Think About It" had hit Number One on the country charts five
months after its release. "I started crying," says Rucker, whose
album Learn to Live has sold 112,995 copies in three
weeks. "I felt like such a dork, but it was really emotional. I'm
in Hootie and the Blowfish, man. A lot of people don't get second
chances."

Six Ways to Keep The CD Spinning, Forever!Breaking news from the “No Shit” Department: Album sales are down, again, 17 percent worse than last year’s sorry numbers over the same quarter. How bad has it gotten? Record label guys are high-fiving one another about this week’s Avril Lavigne vs. Nine Inch Nails sales race, and that both artists might shift 200,000 units this week. 200,000? That’s what N*Sync and Hootie & The Blowfish called a slow Thursday. More duh: Digital sales are on the rise. It’

Brian Wilson Receives Hootie Salute at Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony If the Rock Daily TiVo hadn’t malfunctioned, right now you’d be watching an astonishingly weird clip of Brian Wilson being celebrated at last night’s pre-taped Kennedy Center Honors. After a touching look back at the Beach Boy’s life narrated by Art Garfunkel, Lyle Lovett warbled “God Only Knows.” Then the words, “Ladies and gentlemen, Hootie & the Blowfish!” echoed through the theater and Darius Rucker and Co. took the stage in matching green and blue flannel shirts to perform passable versions of “I Get Around” “Fun, Fun, Fun” and “California Girls” (which were noteworthy mostly for the reaction shots of George Bush jerking his head off-beat in the balcony). An English boys’ choir wrapped things up with a sweet rendition of “Love and Mercy” and as beach balls floated down from the ceiling, Wilson’s neighbor Diana Ross — who was honored by Jordin Sparks, Ciara and gospel star Yolanda Adams, and spent much of Wilson’s tribute stealing his camera time with exaggerated gasps and crazy eyes — reached out and plucked one from the air for him. It was a touching moment. … But seriously, Hootie? Brian Wilson is the patron saint of indie rock, so certainly they could have found anybody else to come play this gig. Paul McCartney? John Cale? Animal Collective? (We can imagine the post-show now: “Mr. President, I’d like to introduce you to Panda Bear.”) Heck, even John Stamos has proven himself more devoted to the Beach Boys’ catalog. Darius Rucker Makes Fatherhood the PriorityFrazer Harrison/Getty for ACMA Times have changed for Darius Rucker, in more ways than one! The 42-year-old former frontman for the rock band Hootie and the Blowfish has switched over to country music with his new album Learn To Live, and has embraced a slower lifestyle in the process. Now that he's a dad, Darius says that his days of non-stop partying are over. "'I want to coach my little kids' football team and go to dance recitals," Darius says. "Seriously, that's what I want to do." "There was a time I wanted to be on the road all the time, being a rock star. I have different priorities in life." One of the things Darius says he loves the most about the new genre is the storytelling element to country music, and as a dad, he has many stories to tell. The track 'It Won't Be Like This for Long' was written with his two daughters -- ages 13 and 7 -- in mind, and Darius says he's in the process of getting his youngest child guitar lessons. "My kids have to play an instrument," he says with a laugh. "But trust me, I'm not going to teach my kids how to be a guitar player...I'm going to let someone else teach them." Source: Toledo Blade

The Kennedy Center Honors Diana Ross, Steve Martin and Others
The Kennedy Center honored Diana Ross, Martin Scorsese, Brian Wilson, Steve Martin and pianist Leon Fleisher before President George W. Bush with the trademark rainbow being placed around their necks as part of the evening's festivities, which included performances by such artists as Yolanda Adams, Art Garfunkel, Lyle Lovett and Yo-Yo Ma. Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross, I'm guessing, are competing to see who could wear the most enormous dress to the event, both appearing to be surrounded in giant clouds of fabric. Seriously, there's a rose bush growing on the side of Diana's gown. And Hootie and the Blowfish were there too (I'm not kidding) dressed in tuxedoes and just generally making me feel old. I have to say that Cameron Diaz's skin actually looks pretty good in this picture--maybe Vanessa Williams managed to sell her some Proactiv just before the red carpet got underway.

Britney's OK! Family Portrait, Spears Family Slams Dr. Phil
It's a veritable Spears family reunion on the cover of OK! magazine, with Britney beaming while flanked by sons Jayden James and Sean Preston, along with sister Jamie Lynn featured in her own private corner of the mag for her teenage pregnancy. The family picture was taken in Britney's backyard a month ago and although the boys look cute, I can't help but wonder why exactly they're dressed like the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish from his 90s heyday. According to fashion photographe
