Disco de Hooverphonic: “Singles 96-06”

Hooverphonic fan or not--this is a awesome compilation CD for those who just want great music! This selection packs some of Hooverphonic's best tracks to date. Sadly, however, there are SO MANY other great songs that were not included. However, if you are new to this band, this CD will give you a pretty good idea of how fantastic their other CD's are. If this purchase doesn't make you want to check out their complete discography, I don't know what will!

In '96, I began (with fervor), a quest to discover moderne Music that wasn't being played on most radio stations. (Yet I knew must exist.) Being a lifelong DJ and musicologist, I knew, in depth about the history of Roots music. I was now ready to go into the future. One of the first bands I encountered was a trip=hop/moderne lounge band from Belgium called Hooverphonic. Their debut album called "Space-Age Stereophonic Sounds" was out and I loved them immediately. With hints of 60's Pop & Lounge, they were thoroughly modern. Synths & drum machines blending with acoustic & electric guitars, harpsichords & other exotic instruments, backing ultra intimate & sexy female vocals. A winner all the way through. I've been a fan ever since & played 'em on my radio show many times. This singles CD is a fab introduction to one of the koolest moderne bands around: HOOVERPHONIC!

I have watched this video and listened to these songs so many times and never tire of it. Hooverphonic is one of the best bands I have had the privilege of listening to.

It has been such a pleasure to listen to this great Belgian group for a number of years now. The first track, "Inhaler", took me back to "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular", which is part of my personal Top 10 albums ever. This compilation also includes "Barabas", "2Wicky" and "Wardrope". The other tracks are some of the finest music I've ever heard; nothing to do with what many people have said about other contemporary groups. Take "Jackie Cane" as a clear example.

As for the DVD, which several people may be wondering about, it's Region 0 PAL encoding. So, if your player can do so, enjoy it.

My only reservation is that the videos can be seen individually only and the selection is manual because there is no "Play All" function. This means that it might take you a while to see them all, but they are really worth it. I hope you enjoy this collection of videos, featuring "2Wicky", "Club Montepulciano", "The World Is Mine", which is way too classy, and the TWO versions for "Mad About You"; this reminded me of the film "The Copycat" when Sigourney Weaver has to stay in her dwelling indefinitely, but the end of this version is quite emotional.

The other feature on the DVD is a concert in January 2006 and you can have a look at the way "Sit Down And Listen" would have been performed. Nice treat though. So, I suggest that you get a good DVD player or use your computer to see this little jewel and this group at their best.

The videos are quite non-sense, but very well produced. The live concert is awsome!
