Kill Hannah - bus fire details revealed! As Kerrang! reported last week, Kill Hannah were involved in a severe bus fire while in Switzerland on their European Tour. Narrowly escaping the flames, the band were left without any of their belongings, stranded in a small Swiss village while they waited for a replacement bus to arrive and have since been getting by with clothes and care packages donated by fans. "All of our luggage, phones, wallets and luggage were fused together with the heat," the band told Kerrang! today. "It crossed people's minds to give up..." For the full interview, watch below.

Megadeth, In Flames, High On Fire Ground and Pound at Gigantour in New York The third installment of Gigantour, Dave Mustaine’s traveling metal circus, had its first of two sold-out shows at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom last night. Never one to blow an entrance, Mustaine opened Megadeth’s set standing alone onstage, ripping into “Sleepwalker,” the first cut from last year’s United Abominations. From then on, the order of business was to thrash as hard as possible for ninety minutes, with items on the agenda including a blistering “Take No Prisoners” and a sneer-heavy “Symphony of Destruction.” Mustaine’s ginger mop doesn’t bob as much as it used to, but his chops were still there — impressive for a guy who had to essentially re-learn his instrument five years ago after suffering nerve damage. The big revelation of the night was newly added lead guitarist Chris Broderick, who made trading shred-heavy lines with Mustaine on “Hangar 18″ seem like child’s play. And speaking of children, the 1984 mullets several attendees forced upon their spawn likely qualify as a form of child abuse. Bouncing back from a pair of albums that were light on memorable moments, Sweden’s In Flames performed a handful of vicious songs from their latest, A Sense of Purpose. Diehard fans gnashed their teeth at the dearth of pre-2000 material, but new songs “The Mirror’s Truth” and “Disconnected” featured enough bite to grab newer ears and likely won back a few of the old ones. Most attendees in the massive line missed an impressive — if unpleasantly early — set from Oakland’s High on Fire, who conjure up as much blood and thunder as Mastodon and do it with only three guys. Phoenix-based youthful Internet buzz band (7 million MySpace views!) Job for a Cowboy followed by showing off solid technical proficiency and was the night’s most straightforwardly brutal act, suggesting the band could become pretty noteworth

Site Specific: Shredding 101 Mastered Guitar Hero? These sites can teach you how to play for real GuitarInstructor.com If you can play DragonForce’s “Through the Fire and Flames” in your sleep, you’re probably ready for this educational site. Guitar Instructor offers a diverse range of video tutorials, arranged by core lessons, master classes, instructor, genre or level. There are also tips from the pros: Dave Navarro gives advice on picking techniques, and Joe Walsh teaches alternate tunings. The site charges $1.99 for each video download, which can get pricey, but you can keep the legal content on your hard drive. Ultimate-Guitar.com With thousands of artists in its library, this free user-generated site houses one of the most comprehensive collections of tablature, the common form of musical notation for guitar. Choose from favorites like the solo in Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” or something more obscure, such as “Ciao L.A.,” from the Nineties indie-rock band Chokebore. Since contributions are made by amateurs, the quality is mixed; to compensate, users’ star ratings tell you which tabs are best. “Guitar Music Theory Lessons” podcast For true geeks only: Music-theory expert Desi Serna offers a free podcast (available on iTunes) that leads you through techniques such as pentatonic and major-scale patterns, arpeggios and chord structures. Listening to a lecture with no visual help can be tricky, but Serna’s lessons are clear and accessible. In his latest podcast, he explains the theory of modal scales — a series of notes that can be used to improvise solos. Overwhelmed? That’s why the first lesson is called “What Is Guitar Theory?”

Jimmy Page Stokes Zep Tour Rumors, EMI Tricks Radiohead Fans, Madonna Rumored to Be Working With Kanye What’s a Tuesday without a Led Zeppelin reunion tour rumor? This week, it’s Jimmy Page once again adding fuel to the fan flames, telling Guitar World, “It’s a bit silly not to because there is such massive demand.” Regarding the band’s lone December 10th concert, “It’s a bit selfish to do just one show. If that’s it, we probably shouldn’t have taken the genie out of the bottle.” It’s no secret EMI is attempting to cash in on former label stars Radiohead, but now they may be going too far. Last week, EMI-sponsored ads on Google claimed that the record giant was selling box sets of Radiohead’s In Rainbows, even thought the album is now property of ATO. The link brought potential consumers to EMI’s own Radiohead Catalogue boxset, which doesn’t contain Rainbows. Radiohead’s camp dismissed the gaff as a “genuine error” on EMI’s part. Another possible culprit: Paul McCartney, who asked Thom Yorke to do a duet but was denied. Evan Dando is currently hard at work on the new Lemonheads album, hoping for an April 2008 release. To help cushion the wait, in March Dando also plans on reissuing the band’s 1992 epic It’s a Shame About Ray in a deluxe edition containing demos, B-sides and a DVD. A book detailing the final years of Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley is scheduled for release in late 2008. Itch, Love Stories About Heroin will document Staley’s addiction and struggles with the drug, as well as “reveal some secrets.” According to one fan site, a Kanye West/Madonna collaboration may appear on the Material Mom’s next album. While Madge and Pharrell Williams were putting finishing touches to her album at Record Plant in Los Angeles, West was next door working on the new Michael Jackson album. Pharrell introduced Madonna to Kanye, Kanye to Madonna, and the rest may be music history.

The Grateful Dead Movie Coming Soon — Don’t Eat the Brown Movie TicketsThe Summer of Love is officially threatening to take over the cinema. Across the Universe is set for fall release, Gus Van Sant’s take on Tom Wolfe’s The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test is in the works and now moviegoers can start preparing for the most acid-soaked tale of them all: Home Before Daylight, a film based on the formative years of the Grateful Dead. The movie will be adapted from a book by Steve Parish, who has some real credentials: He was a Dead roadie for 35 years. The story, which has already been endorsed by Dead guitarist Bob Weir, will chart the history of the band, focusing on those times they chilled with Ken Kesey and Jefferson Airplane in the Haight-Ashbury days. We’re totally stoked for this film, if just to see who gets cast as Grace Slick (please not Lindsay Lohan). While no release date is set for the film, we anticipate something in the 2009 ballpark, as the script will undoubtedly be a fact-checker’s nightmare (how would you verify whether or not Weir actually saw an eight-headed dragon that breathed purple flames while he was tripping acid during the twenty-third minute of a “Dark Star” jam?). Plus, the CG effects will likely cost in the millions to make sure those hallucinations look realistic. So, who would you like to see cast in this film? Paul Giametti as Pigpen, anyone?
